  • I called BG today as I couldn't seem to submit my reads online, and they sorted that out, and the advisor on the call told me all about the energy smart tariff, and explained that compared to my websaver3 plan, I would pay a 3% higher unit rate if I changed to the online saver plan with energy smart, and he illustrated this by saying, in the last 8 days we had used £13.34 of electric, on the new tariff this would have cost approx £14.60. But, it will give me better online tools to keep a track of the usage and predict the forthcoming bills. To me, this is a small price to pay for the increased flexibility I get with seeing my consumption. I have now looked on the new energy consumption tool, and I can see that since nov 4th we have used £67.52 of gas, electricity is unavailable just now, but does that amount seem good? We use the heating for about 6-8 hours a day sometimes more on 15-18 degrees. 4 bed end of terrace with mostly double glazing and a coal fire

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Spinningsheep, it's so easy to keep track of your usage without resorting to BG sales tactics. If you go to this website, submit previous and current readings the website works out your usage and your bill. Best of all it's free:

    http://smartmeter.ukpower.co.uk/

ETA: This website helps with keeping a spread sheet of your usage:

  • Cheers ballandchain, have used that one before but at least this way I am safe in the knowledge that my track of usage is directly linked to my bills, so no arguments when the bills come in, in theory

The good thing is, they did explain to you that it would cost you more, and then you made your own decision - that's the way it should be.

I'm on click 6, which qualified for the energy smart deal. I'm not that fussed about the monitor TBH (although it's now sitting in the kitchen telling me I've done too much laundry today ) but as I've been submitting monthly (and sometimes weekly) meter readings for some time now, it'll be nice to know that my bills are based on actual usage. I do worry though that I'll get used to the low bills in the summer and forget to budget for the increase in the winter :o As I'm generally a low user, the difference can be quite dramatic...

Heat off again it's been so mild again for last couple days. I do hope it lasts a bit longer .
  • To those who dont have to heat their flats due to neighbours heating keeping them warm. Are these new build flats and if so which building firm built them.

Also where abouts are you within the block. Ground First Floor etc

    Find this fascinating

The flat I'm in is new build (2008) and I'm on the 2nd floor. Built by Wimpey if that makes a difference? It's been 19.5 degrees in doors today and I had the windows open and heating still off.
  • THanks Ballandchain. Can I also ask if they have good sound proofing?
  • Heating has gone back off today as its gone a bit milder, and DS and I won't be here for much during the next two days (OH doesn't feel the cold!) :)
