Yes the sound proofing is good. That was one thing I was concerned about when moving here as the one property I lived in was built in the 80s and the walls were paper thin! I think nowadays they have to make sure sound proofing and insulation meet the required standards. This is the warmest place I've ever been in so if you are thinking of moving to a new build I would recommend it.0 -

has anybody heard what the weathers going to be like over next few weeks so hoping it going to stay milder
I always check the BBC website which gives a month's weather in advance.

Just scroll down and it's on the left hand side.
Is there anyone who has still kept their heating completely off? It's 19 degrees in doors and still no heating on here. :T0 -
Yesterday I had no heating on at all and felt quite comfy with just thick socks and trousers and a fleecy jacket. Today it has turned much colder and have been in all day doing housework and catching up with paperwork, so I had the heating on a bit this morning and a bit this evening. I must say that the double glazing makes an awful lot of difference to the amount of heating I need.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

We've had the heating on and off for a few weeks...BF turns it on, I turn it off! Though this morning I did set it to come on as our flat gets quite cool over night and I knew it was going to be chilly this morning. Our flat is quite draughty and we have trouble with the boiler and the radiators (only one works properly, three heat up in places and the other two are useless), so it can be a losing battle sometimes. Our landlord said he's going to sort them out, but as ever, not heard anything back. Our gas and electric bill are horrible though, so I keep on at my BF to put on extra layers. If I can manage a jumper and fleece jacket, so can he.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

Thanks for that not looking to good for end of week0 -
I turned my heating on for the first time yesterday... unfortunately, not having the heating on has led to the ceiling in the front room cracking everywhere. Turned the heating on and the cracks are 'gone'... much better.0

Extra layers make SUCH a difference. For some reason, modern British people seem to think it a great imposition to have to wear anything other than skimpy clothing. My winter 'at home' outfit has been the following:
Long underwear
Cotton socks plus thick hiking socks
Wool/flannel trousers (not jeans, cotton doesn't seem to keep the cold out)
Vest
Flannel shirt
Neck scarf/silk cravatte type thing or army scrim-net scarf
Woolie jumper
Fleece/cardie
If I'm sitting watching telly I'll have a blanket over me as well.
One thing that will keep you absolutely warm at all times is a Harris tweed jacket (and trousers as well preferably) but this does get a bit scratchy and uncomfortable round the house.
If it gets really cold I wear a 'benny from crossroads' type hat as well. No doubt I look an absolute div but who cares. I only need the heating on the absolute minimum or not at all.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
LOL still off. It's just as well that the partner's parents aren't coming down for Christmas because then we might have had to break our streak. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0
