Is your heating ON or OFF?

Our heating is still off, not our choice though.:( First no fire wood, that arrived last week.:j No coal but planned to get that in next week. The main problem is the Rayburn, the chimney sweep arrived today. The bolt sheared when he took the door off the flue pipe. He had warned me it might happen and asked me for the go ahead. Then because the old fire place had'nt been filled up high enough, it should have been filled about a foot higher that the rayburn, he would'nt sweep the chimney as he would'nt beable to collect any soot that fell down below the rayburn.
We now have a hole in the wall where the flue pipe was and dh is working out how to back fill behind the rayburn. Looks like I'll be phoning around for a flue pipe and door on Monday. Hopefully DH will be able to back fill tomorrow and even if can't put the new flue in at least the chimney sweep should be able to sort the chimney during the week, and dh can fix the flue next weekend.0 -

Yes it's been on 2 weeks, since we had our new £3000 boiler & heating system installed. It's 22 degrees & I'm loving it. It will still be cheaper than last year when the system was working at 40% efficiency!!!Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044! Still off here. I've found folding an old wool blacket lengthwise, draping it over the computer seat and folding both sides over my legs works really well. You can usually pick them up for about £2 in a charity shop.0

I've just driven home from a night shift and my car showed the outside temp was 2 degrees. Only 13 degrees in my kitchen so heating on at 16 degrees for an hour before I go to bed.0

Why is it that people who work in shops have it so warm they can walk around in t.shirts? Yet the customers who come in get hot in their jumpers and coats.
. I know if we go to town in a car a light jacket is enough, but if we walk to town in our warm coats and scalfs and then go into the shopping mall we then cook.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
We are on here finally - MIL is here from Spain - where she lives and it was cruel not to put the heat on for her as she is used to warm climates. However when she returns home - planning to try shutting it off again - trouble is - when you get used to the heat - its tough to get used to being colder again.
Our heating bill should have dropped from last year by staying off until 4th November.
Fingers crossed

No heating on here yet this autumn. Ok , London is a mild part of the country , but last year i had to switch it on before the end of October, so doing quite well. The flat maintains a heat of 19-20 degrees at the moment, partic if cooking is going on in the kitchen
My record year for late switch on, was 2006 - 17 November or thereabouts. Not sure whether will last that long this year! Here's hoping - the weather is supposed to get milder again midweek.:j0 -
mine is on evenings only, i find pottering around during the day keeps me warm enough....0
