With no heating on my house is 11 - 12C. Are you seriously telling me there are people in this thread sitting wrapped in blankets in those sort of temperatures rather than put the heating on? I'm all for saving a few quid but that sounds like madness to me.

    £1450 a year..isnt a few quid!!

I sit with 3 layers on, hot water bottle, blanket.. I am an easily cold person, very easy to just click the heating on...not so easy to fork out £145 a month!

rather wrap up warm and be able to afford food and medicine ..lesser of two evils

  • OH and myself still have the heating off. We are down in the SE and the other night the front room was at 12c but we don't really use it and upstairs with the computers it was much warmer. Our bed has a duvet and two sleeping bags laid on top though, but like others have said we keep saying about putting it on but neither of us wants to be the one to break the challenge which was first to get to Nov 1st and now to get to Dec 1st. But i'm sure one of us will give in pretty soon!

Remember there is a big difference between the temperatures inside peoples houses, so just because it is 11 -12 C in yours doesn't mean it is the same for everyone else. The lowest it's been in my kitchen which is a fairly cold room is 14C without the heating on. I'd be surprised if our sitting room has dropped below 15C.
I have thermometers all over the place and put my heating on or light my fire when it gets too cold, but then I switch the heating off once the house has warmed up and the thermostatic valves on the radiators are switching off, we don't have a room thermostat though.
  • Ours is still off,but it's not that cold except for late at night and by then we're off to bed anyway.

I did put my on last night, as the house was cold when I got home (that's the problem with not being in to close the curtains at dusk!). However, it's not on timed - I'm switching it on and off manually as I need it, and it was fine this morning without it.

Thermostat is set to 16 degrees, so I reckon if I switch it on and it kicks in, it's probably cold!

When the boiler was serviced, the engineer recommended switching it on once a month anyway to check that it's still working OK - you don't want to find out there's a problem when you really need it! So I've tested mine :D I'm off to Orlando for work next week, so although I'll just leave the dehumidifier on while I'm away, I suspect I'll probably need the heating on when I get back

I still don't have the heating on. My living room right now is 21 degrees. It gets a little colder in the evening of course but thick socks, a thick jumper and a warm dinner helps. We had the fire on last night for a bit, and I point a fan heater at me while I'm getting dressed in the morning, but still no need for central heating.
