Ooo, I'm so jealous, I love an open fire!!

Who was it here said they'd lined their curtains with fleece? I was wondering if it had made a difference...?

Still no heating on here, been quite nice today because its been sunny on and off...

I love it too Sarah - just hate cleaning it out! But it's handy for heating just the living room; I really don't mind a cold bedroom.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I have to have a cold bedroom. I'd rather sleep in bed with 5 layers on than heat the bedroom, something about breathing in warm air while sleeping makes me feel like I'm suffocating! Even now we're sleeping with the window open, even if its just a crack

  • Hi,
we have a 3 bed end terrace in chilly Highlands of Scotland. My DH and I keep saying, its so cold ... we need to put the heating on, but then niether of us does it. I can't actually believe that we are into November and we don't have all the heating on, that is unheard of in my lifetime! We have 1 heater on in sittingroom and the doors stay closed to keep heat in, so we have somewhere warm to sit.

Our heating is Hydro electric total heating with total control, (installed about 6 years ago and would never have got it if I'd know how little heat and rediculous cost it would be). I signed up for the Hydro energy watch meter thingy at the end of last winter but don't have a clue how it works and when I watch it it seems to have a complete mind of its own?! Even though we were on holiday, and only water heater and freezers running, it was still filling the 5 bars?!
If anyone know's exactly what you're supposed to do with it, please let me know :o

    Thanks

We're in the south west and haven't put the heating on yet. Our aim was to get past the 29th so we've achieved that. Just wondering how much longer we can manage!

DS (15) and DD (12) moan every morning when they get up but it's really not too bad. I can assure you all if I feel cold, the heating WILL go on.

With no heating on my house is 11 - 12C. Are you seriously telling me there are people in this thread sitting wrapped in blankets in those sort of temperatures rather than put the heating on? I'm all for saving a few quid but that sounds like madness to me.

i have my heating on for an hour on the morning. in the evening the kids are in bed wrapped up and we have blankets. ds2 gets croup a lot and we have been told that central heating in the bedroom at night will dry the air out even more and can bring on the croup. so keep him wrapped up with no heating on. that is what i will try to do for as long as possible. cant cope without it in the morning - dont think any of us would get out of bed if we didnt have a bit of heat!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
  • I'm sitting here on the sofa with a blanket over me, I think it's quite chilly tonight. We didn't put a fire on because we'd not long had the oven and hob on which warms the place up, and we're going to bed in a while so no point in putting the heating or building a fire just for an hour or so.

Not sure how long we will be able to hold up having a shower on a cold winter morning without the heating on though.

I'm sat her with hot water bottle and blanket and am really quite warm i havn't been all day though ,i have nearly caved in and put heating on several times.Heat has always been taken for granted in this house i hate the cold but afraid OH has lost his job so i am hanging on for as long as i can .The theory is if i save as much as poss now when it gets really bad i will be able to have it for a while each day.
