Is your heating ON or OFF?

It is set for 2 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. So far the weather hasn't been too bad so it is not turning on very often. The house is a comfortable temperature. I HATE being cold.
I don't think it is a competition - would hate to think so! But I know what you mean, if you don't read the thread in the right spirit it can feel like the "goodies" are the ones on OFF and the "baddies" are ON, no?
I think it is a personal commitment rather than a competition and each of us does it at the level that suits them (I hope). I would feel horrified if I thought that my keeping the heating off is actually encouraging someone else to do the same, say, in spite of their health or home situation.
I hope that anybody who needs the heating on, or just plain and simple "hates being cold" feels free to do what they need to do and put the heating on, regardless of what goes on in the forum! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

So right, Caterina - there is no way that anybody should regard this thread with an element of 'competition'.
1. We all live in different parts of the country - some of us even in different countries altogether.
2. The climate varies so much from region/region AND even town/town within those regions.
3. Our homes are so very different - not insulated/insulated; c/h - gas fires - wood-burners - open fires; flats - semis - detached - cottages;
double/single glazed.
4. Our family situations are different - single/married/young families/teens/elderly; out working all day/at home for whatever reason/shift workers.
5. Health issues/lifestyles - active/mobility issues/circulation probs.
6. Heating method - solid fuel/oil/gas/electric/alternative AND it's availability.
Well done to all who are still able to keep the heating off - we should think ourselves very blessed indeed. Let's just all pray for a winter that isn't too severe and that we all come through it financially unscathed.

Well said Caterina and Olliebeak! I tend to view it as a competition with myself, and like the fact that there are other people out there who don't flick on their heating at the first sight of a cloud!
I put mine earlier this week as it was perishing cold, but have now turned it off again as the weather is really mild and I've got all the windows open today! If the weather gets cold again, or colder than extra jumpers and socks can cope with, then I shall flick the on switch again!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
I tried to put mine on Tuesday evening (due to DD (not well) with dgk's visiting for overnight stay) BUT it wasn't working
- lol! Now fixed - so ready and raring to go when needed

waited till 15 November last year, so hoping to go without a few days longer this year
lol Ollie, glad it's fixed now. I always do a "heating test" when I get the boiler serviced so I don't get a nasty surprise when I need it0 -
Still of but the electric blanket goes on for 15 minutes before bedtime to take the edge off the sheets. Still looking like we will make the deadline, just seen the weather report and it looks like London is going to have very mild weather in the next few days (alas, with some rain tomorrow, in case you wanted to know, but sunnier on Sunday). Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

I'm still ok without it but had a friend over for a while last night and was a bit embarrassed that the house was cold. I think I've just got used to it and don't really notice. I would have put on the heat but by the time the house heated it up would have been time for my friend to go.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I woke up this morning wondering why it was so warm and discovered that an elf had turned the heating on... which I wasn't best pleased about:rolleyes:
I was even less pleased when I discovered that the elf hadn't made sure that the radiators weren't obstructed and one had a plastic bag stuck behind it and another had a play tent pushed up against it :mad:
The heating is now OFF:DEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
