Off still, but very tempted to put it on as really cold tonight and am covered from head to toe.
I can see my breath so must be cold??! Or maybe I have really hot breath? :P
Edit...Sod it, i've put it on. I'll probably be roasting later and it'll go off again, but for now i'm cold so it's staying on!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Hi Caterina, mine are the same age. I put fleeses all around the house, bedrooms and sofa's and see them being used every day. At the moment we just lite the coal fire and leave the lounge door wide open so the heat spreads. As it gets colder we have 2 convector heater fires that run @ 2p an hour that get used in diffrent rooms. On occasions will put one in the hall.Lastly the SC will go on.
Can you not give him one of theese convector type fire's? I see Comet sell them for £33. I think with the 20's people living at home they find it hard when you talk about the electric/gass bill. When they move into there own place the understanding becomes very real.
Mine are the same as all others and I now find myself shutting the back door left open for the dog or walking around in the evening switching things off when they have all gone out. Do you know what, I love my adult children being at home. I try not to say to much as the 2 @ home do help with little jobs and are good company comming and going.
I got a couple of convector heaters from ebay for £10 the pair! They are B&Q cheapies but do warm up quickly, though I insist they're on ONLY whilst dressing after a shower.
Same here, my kids are 17, 21 and 23, I love them livng here and dread them moving out, but they simply don't grasp the MSE lifestyle - we have gone from quite affluent to a really dire mess in a short space of time, and though I need their co-operation to reduce the bills, the situation isn't their fault. I find it easy to adopt the habits from my own childhood - eat warming food, wear more layers, move vigorously enough to warm up - but they didn't grow up with this mentality and now they resent the stark reality that it represents. It doesn't help that they do such stupid things without thinking, like leaving the kitchen lights on because the cats are eating!
Still, one day perhaps they will be crying over their bills in homes of their own, and they'll wish they'd tried harder to help when I needed it.0 -
No heating on yet for us. We've lit candles in the lounge some evenings which makes it look and feel cosy. It's a bit nippy in the morning getting dressed but this is a modern house with good insulation so I can't see how we should need heating on yet.
Off to switch the electric blanket on the bed now!:jMortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000

I'm in a modern build and the insulation is brilliant. Not got the heating on and that is saying something as I always feel the cold. It's 19 degrees cent. indoors but I am cheating by lying in bed with the electric blanket on! The last flat was freezing and all electric, the electric bill was astronomical and no insulation so heat didn't make an impact.
If anyone has trouble with working out their energy bills I came across this handy calculator that does it for you. You put in which company you are with, previous meter reading and current one and which tariff you are on. The calculator works out your bill for you and tells you how many kwh each day on average you use. I think it even tells you your carbon footprint (for those who are environmentally conscientious.) No heating for me yet - I've got a clock thing with the temperature on and it's 17 degrees in here, I'm sitting in a teeshirt because I'm too warm still.
It was colder yesterday, I did think maybe the neighbours had put theirs on but then I remembered the ones next to us have moved out, and the upstairs ones wouldn't make any difference would they
To be honest if it was just me I'd probably never put the heating on, I don't really feel the cold and when I do a fleecy blanket usually sorts me out for a bit. Problem is, the b/f DOES feel the cold and so he'l start moaning soon, also I don't want my poor little hamster to start hibernating! Bless her:rotfl:In fact, the reason I've got the thermometer clock in the room with me is so that I know when it's cold enough to put the heating on for the hamster (b/f is rather put out that I'll do it for her and not him )

have had it on randomly over last few days but now set timer for an hour and a half from 6.30am and 6.30pm.
BIL is cold when he gets out the shower in the morning
I'm getting up for 2 night feeds but don't find it that cold althou the car needed de-icing on Sunday morning!
Have draught excluders and lots of fleece balnkets about so hoping not to have to put it on for any longer than 90mins! Might get FIL to bleed the radiators when he comes over next!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Ours is still of but I'm freezing and not sure how much longer I can cope, hubby said he did consider putting it on last night when I was out and he usually doesn't feel the cold. I hope to continue to tough it out until November because we really can't afford a big bill.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

I'm managing without putting the heating on most of the time. I have turned it on 2 evenings when I had visitors and one Friday evening when I came in very wet from the rain. Apart from that doing quite well as I have no other form of heating.
I work nights so usually tucked up in bed all day and have lots of quilt and covers on the bed. I havn't even used my wheat bags yet to warm up the bed though I am very tempted to splash out on an electric underblanket for when it gets really cold.0
