We haven't turned on the heating yet. The past couple of nights my partner's said he was a bit chilly and then conceded with "well, I don't have a jumper on, though" and then put one on. :j

I've layered up a lot and am wearing knit short sleeved cardigans over top of my jumpers if it gets chilly. And when sitting down I always snuggle up in a down blanket.

We keep the door closed in the living room in the evenings to trap in the body/TV heat.

We also close bedroom doors upstairs so that when the heat from the downstairs rises, it goes into our bedroom only and isn't wasted heating the office/guest bedroom.

I also made a draught snake a couple of weeks ago using an old towel and some leftover stuffing from a previous project to put in front of the only door in the house that isn't double glazed (leading to a double-glazed conservatory). We've found that that makes a noticeable difference.

I was cold when I got up this morning at half 5  but when I opened the back door it actually felt warmer outside so I left the door open!!

I had that a few days ago but in the afternoon. Does that mean you have condensation on the outside? I'll need to check that next time.

Note to self: get a tent.

On for an hour in the morning (makes getting up a little less unpleasant) to take the chill off while getting showered and dressed, then again for an hour or two in the evening (fills the cold gap between the warmth from cooking/having the oven on, and heading for the quilt!) :D

After saying earlier that ours was on it hasn't been too bad here, central heating has been on for half an hour in the morning and half an hour at lunch time on the timer and that seems to have been plenty, I haven't needed to light the woodburning stove today so that's wood saved for another day, although it might need lighting this evening!

Hi Caterina, mine are the same age. I put fleeses all around the house, bedrooms and sofa's and see them being used every day. At the moment we just lite the coal fire and leave the lounge door wide open so the heat spreads. As it gets colder we have 2 convector heater fires that run @ 2p an hour that get used in diffrent rooms. On occasions will put one in the hall.Lastly the SC will go on.
Can you not give him one of theese convector type fire's? I see Comet sell them for £33. I think with the 20's people living at home they find it hard when you talk about the electric/gass bill. When they move into there own place the understanding becomes very real.
Mine are the same as all others and I now find myself shutting the back door left open for the dog or walking around in the evening switching things off when they have all gone out. Do you know what, I love my adult children being at home. I try not to say to much as the 2 @ home do help with little jobs and are good company comming and going.

    Hi Julie_d,

Thank you for your reply. I have scattered woolen blankets all over the place in the living room and they make good use of them.

I don't trust my son with anything else with a plug in his room! He must have some 15 appliances, as he is a musician and has pc, dvd, amps, electric guitar, electric piano and I don't know how many more gadgets - I live in fear that something catches fire in the night and we all end up roasted:eek:!

I am glad that you said that thing about liking having your adult children live at home. Me too, and for some reason I am supposed to not like it (according to "popular wisdom"). I love it, even if they drive me mad most of the time. A love like my children I shall never have anywhere else, it is great to be a family, warts and all! Thank you for reminding me of my good fortune!:T
