Might get FIL to bleed the radiators when he comes over next!

wht don`t you do it, such a simple little job. All you need is a cheap radiator key
  • No heating on here and to be honest we've never realy considered it either.
We made it until December last year, even though it was very cold so it's a doddle at the moment.
I can't believe how my OH who never thought twice about wasting energy has remembered all the stuff I told him to do last year.
Watching TV he just reaches for a throw instead of the boiler controls.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Anyway I do feel much healthier not living in a hot stuffy enviroment and I find I get through so much during the day as I keep active.
That alone has it's benefits as I don't put on any weight in the winter and I sleep better as I wear myself out during the day.
My OH is already suffering from the affects of central heating at work he has the most terrible bunged up nose and tickly cough, something we both suffer from the minute we fire up the radiators.
As well as that I also have £300 prepaid from last winter on what we saved by not putting the heating on till later so we're well happy and at least we have a bit of a financial cushion when we do have to put it on.

I can't believe it is almost a year since I last posted on this thread .

We managed to keep the heating off until December as far as I remember and it worked out well, as we got our latest Eon bill last week and we are £146+ in credit :T.

The multi-fuel stove is now lit on a regular basis in the evening, but I don't yet bank it up overnight. We are burning wood we got for free at the end of last winter and some coke to help keep it on.

Good luck to everyone for this winter

I think that for those of us who are able to keep active during the day, this is one very valuable way of reducing the heating bill because you do tend to keep much warmer when moving around than when sedentary in an armchair or stuck in front of the computer. When I get up I always climb into warm clothes which have been left on the radiator overnight which gives me a good start and I try to do all my household and gardening chores in the morning. My deadly time in winter is around 4 p.m. when I'm getting tired, the sun has disappeared and the temperature is dropping like a stone. When you fall into an armchair at this time of day and stop moving around it's surprising how quickly you can start to feel chillled, even when you've got several layers of clothes on.

On for the second time this week, will have it on for a couple of hours during which we have baths/showers children do homework etc then its off and we cuddle up in throws or go to bed.

Not on in the morning though, we don't have time to feel cold.

Haven't had any heat on here yet, to be honest not felt that cold, but have been good with extra layers and thick socks etc. Found great furry house boots in Pr*m*rk, under £5.00, will be buying some for Xmas prez ! Thanks to all hints & tips picked up on MSE last year I saved a fortune on winter bills, and hopfully will be doing same this year. Things have tended to slip a bit during summer but back on track now. :o

Will be interesting to see how long I can hold out before putting heating on, mind you, I am lucky coz out all day at the moment but finish job on 31st December, so.................... dunno what bills will be like after that.
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Got the air con on in the sitting room. Life is too short to be sitting in the cold.

I'm surprised at myself, no heating on yet and the temperature inside went up to 20 degrees! I can't believe how the insulation makes such a difference. I put my hairdryer on to dry my hair and the temperature went up .5 degrees! If I do the hoovering the temperature inside goes up a degree. I'm lucky being in the South East and the weather was balmy here today!

ETA: Still have the electric blanket on though so I'm cheating.

Still off! Not even needing the wood stove on today as it is quite mild. If it goes on like this we will manage to hit the 1st November target!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
