Off! In holding out till AT LEAST November ... this of course depends on OH's complaining. He put it on for an hour on Tues night as I was ill in bed and shivery, much to my requests not too as it was `ill` chilly not actual `cold`0

I'm really pleased (smug) to say that ours still isn't on.
My gas bill has been about £2 per month over summer as we only use it for cooking (aside from heating the house and water) in winter.
Im so Jealous !
I only use my gas for cooking and thought Id done well getting mine down to £10 per month over the summer !
What do you eat ??0 -

We only cook once a day for tea but just eat normal stuff. We're away quite a few weekends so that might make a difference.
Do you still heat your water in Summer?
BTW for everyone else... just tried to turn my heating on (ONLY TO CHECK IT, don't worry) and it won't switch on. Think its the programmer but not sure...

Loosely scrunch some newspaper to fill bottom of the grate. Chuck sticks on top then a few bits of coal if you have some (really helps to keep a wood fire going). Then a couple logs or larger sticks. Light the paper. wait for it all to get roaring and add a few more logs.
Main problem with open log fire is you either have it roaring or pretty much off. its hard to get it idling. coal idles a bit easier so worth having a bag or 2 around to supplement the wood with.
If you have the time, go for a few walks with some bags and collect sticks. These are the best kindling I found and free so very MSE
I should mention have you checked you are not in a smoke free zone? In some places you arent allowed to burn wood on open fires, you'd need to use smokeless coal if you are in a smoke free zone.
Happy burning :beer:0 -
Erm..., Trying to keep it off as much as possible but with a DH with Raynaurds disease and a friend coming to stay here for an indefinate period when she leaves hospital today I have a feeling we are in for a pricey winter.
Shame about all the lovely thick jumpers and cardi's I've knitted to keep me warm, I'll be far too hot if we have to keep having the heating on.

It hasnt been on since though, it's been quite mild and in all honesty it probably didnt need to go on wednesday, I probably could have just shoved a cardi on instead of moaning I was cold dressed in a tshirt.Capital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j
Barclaycard was £250.00 now £190. 00
Asda credit card was £500.00 now £0.00:j
