Not put it on yet. Had to turn on the main room gas fire for a short while the other day when we had visitors!
Tchah! Hand out those thermal vests and suggest a brisk walk! I'm the same when people come - they knock and I switch the fire on and say some really awful lying comment like "this room never seems to get really warm" when they come in - which is truish, the reason it never gets really warm being that I don't turn the fire on usually:o
  • Heating on already! What's the matter with you MSEers!!! It's been a lovely day, it's still only early October - get moving, stop sitting around, or put on an extra jumper. I hope none of you are in T-shirts, shorts, or bare feet in doors - if you are, shame on you!

We live in a cosy 3 bed terrace, so hoefully the neighbours will put their heating on first, and we'll reap the benefit!

Just been in India for 10 days, temperatures all in the upper 30's centigrade. Feels freezing back here but I lit a fire in the front room fireplace and it really made a difference. Used to have October as a cut off point for central heating but now I am going to try for November ;) The kids automatically put on their dressing gowns and socks with their pyjamas without being told. Having common sense used to keep me warm as a child too! Sis and me used to sit inside dad's army issue sheepskin lined coat if we were chilly;) No such thing as cosy here - high ceilings between 8'and nearly 12' i think (???) so knitwear and blankets are necessities.

Just want to say that I don't have any romantic memories of being cold - far from it. I just wondered if we behaved differently ie more inclined to reach for a jumper than head for the heating.

Our heating was on on Thursday when it was cold and windy but off since. A useful preview as 2 of our thermostatic doodahs have stuck closed  :rotfl: :rotfl:

My DH insisted on lighting our coal fire on thursday evening i was hoping to hold off until november. He has lit it again this evening . I have protested and told him to wear another jumper. He won't listen. So we are waisting money now and i am not happy but very warm..

I remember living in houses with no central heating. You layered up like anything. I remember scraping the frost off the inside of the bedroom windows in the morning...any of you going to go that far, I can't recommend it LOL :)

    Ooh the memories!
My mums house is like that every winter, and quite damp too. They have a stone staircase, so its always running water in winter.

Just coz a buildings listed, it doesn't mean its desirable!

At the moment we've just got loads of condensation in a morning.
