I have had it on a couple of times during the last week. It is set to come on if the temperature drops below 15C and hasn't kicked in on it's own yet. However a couple of mornings have been very damp, even with windows open, soIhave put the heating on when I get up and it is on til about 11ish. I haven't put it on in the evenings yet, although we have had the fire on for an hour the odd night just before bed (and that is with lovely thick cosy dressing gowns on too;) :D ) We haven't needed tons of extra blankets yet, just one extra on each bed.
Love and compassion to all x
  • I am not setting a date....if it gets too cold I`ll put the heating on:confused:.
There are far too many viruses etc around in the winter to be sat at home shivering IMHO.

Technically ON :o As it's on a thermostat we didn't actually bother turning it off. If it needs to be on, it'll come on. If not, it won't. Hasn't been on yet as definitely not cold enough. We're still sleeping under the summer duvet and even the en-suite, which is on the corner of the house and tends to be freezing first thing, hasn't been noticeably cold yet.

We had cavity wall insulation installed in April so it'll be interesting to see what difference that makes. Last year we turned the thermostat down a degree from 20 to 19. I did notice the difference, but it was nothing a thicker jumper couldn't sort out. Our energy supplier has an online thingy that shows your usage and OH was merrily monitoring it last year and that 1 degree made a big difference. We are both eagerly awaiting this year's results to see how the cavity wall insulation changes it :D

The main time our house gets cold is during the day as the heating is only set to come on in the morning and evening. There is a chance I might be working from home permanently in the near future, which could be an issue. If it comes off, I think I'll be investing in some thermal undies!

BigBird - I think you will notice the difference in your heating bill now that you've had cavity wall insulation installed. Our next door neighbour who has an identical house to ours and like us, is home all day, has much higher gas bills than us. Of course, we tend to be fairly disciplined about use of the central heating, so that may make a slight difference but even so, I think you'll find a difference. Of course, if we have an arctic winter, then things will be different.

Mines on :j:j It's turned cold so I've just punched in an hour. If it's still cold later another hour will be punched in. I do have a jumper on, I'm still cold, so heating it is. I'm grateful that unlike some previous generations I do have that choice:D I refuse to wear outdoor clothing inside my home ( well other than last winter when the boiler broke down and we were two days without heat or hot water ) I'm afraid the moneysaving aspect will not persuade me.
I would just like to point out that any heat source IS heating:D Some folk seem to think if it's not heat provided by a boiler then it doesn't count  Sorry unless science has been turned on its head, woodburners, ranges, coal fires, oil heaters etc etc are all using fuel ( energy) to produce the heat.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • Tis quite nippy today isn't it - I am sat at my pc with a big mug of tea and my fluffy robe on, I am lovely and snug. No heating yet! yay.

I've just put mine on. I feel like I have a cold coming on and am all chilly. Also, I've just taken my uniforms out the washing machine and I'm working tomorrow!

I've had it on once, a couple of weeks ago and thats all. I will try and hold off for another few weeks!
