Meh. Showoff! It's still damp here. Not that I've done any washing today (see confessions of a tired oldstyler thread :o )

I wonder if the dog is going to use my rotary airer as a fairground ride this year. Amount of stuff I had to wash twice!

Dont get me wrong, Im still in woolly tights and layers, but its double figures out there (11) and its not raining .Here in Northern Ireland thats a summers day and not to be wasted :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

At least your husband didn't fell a tree onto it! It was lovely drying weather today as well.

I had washing on it at the time too. Been looking at proper Australian ones as that one was a bit crap, but they cost well over £200.

So, keeping on topic, yes, my heating is on. I need to get my clothes dried somehow!

Due to cold weather we used €450 worth of oil between 5th December and 5th January...almost 1000litres in fact. Heat has now been reduced to 1 hour in morning and about 3 hours in evening...no help for it as OH has been feeling very cold since he had his stroke last September....will have a woodburner in both kitchen and living room between now and next winter and use free wood as much as possible.

    Marie,

Sorry to hear about your husband stroke. My husband has one a couple of years ago and he now wears thermals. He wears the T-shirts under a fleece and has thermal long johns on under his trousers.

That has meant we can keep the heating off or very low. My husband also tries to move around about once an hour even if it from one room to another to get the blood flowing but also to stop his joints getting stiff.

    Yours

    Calley

We try to have it off during the day after breakfast but lengthy periods sitting at the computer do tend to make you feel chilly but might put it back on occasionally for half an hour or so.

jackieb - if you want rid of all that wood try advertising it on Freecycle - loads of people would love it for a woodburner! You might need to explain that it needs chopping by whoever collects!

ON ...... using a timer. We are oil central heating and the timer comes on at 6.30-9.30 am and then from 4.00pm to 10.30pm. Radiators have thermostats. Full double glazing, well insulated roof and cavity wall insulation. We do have plenty of very large windows though and if there's any sun about it finds us!! I am sure that helps a lot because a friend close by has v similar house but round the other way and more trees around it and it's nowhere near as warm. They both sit there in fleece jumpers down up to their chins. I've never been that cold in all the time we've lived here.

We never have to wear thick woolies, just sweatshirt type gear around the house. My house is much warmer than all of my friends though. One friend's cottage is like a cave, she has that many curtains over doors etc and it's still freezing. Another sits there with hot water bottles and about 5 layers of jumpers.

I am prepared to cut down in other areas but not on staying warm. If I'm cold I'm miserable.;)

Me too -if I'm cold then the heating's on, that's what it's for. We don't walk round in T-shirts either.
  • Off at the moment - GCH is broken and I have a small hungry fan heater. it is a lot warmer than it has been, I'm layered up and keeping busy. Keeping fan heater off tonight.

Just checked bbc weather and it is going to be clear for a couple of days at least so should get a wash dried.

Anyone tried any walking socks for keeping warm? Got a pair of towelling ones a few months back for £2. Far too thick and cosy for walking but excellent for keeping the feet warm.

at the moment the heating is on timed - but i have reduced the time for now!

  • Ashamed to admit that with the mortgage rate down (halved since August as I'm on SVR) and oil price down (again - halved since August), I've thrown caution to the wind. Whacked the (dead) thermo up and put it on continuous

Well, at least when it was cold last week :) Back to timed and TBH, I don't notice the "cold" during the day - it's only when I flop in the evening, when I'm lolling around doing nothing

I was so hot in bed at the weekend (combi goose down duvet around 14 tog) that I thought about going to the "Spring" version at around 9 tog. But perhaps that's my age :o
