Is your heating ON or OFF?

DH has put the fire on tonight - gas bill be d*mned! - but we never have the heating on for longer than an hour and only in the mornings. My mum gave us a single duvet each and we cuddle up with these on the sofa at night. I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0 -
The heating goes on 1st November and off on 1st March for an hour in the morning and two hours in the evening.
I'm ruthless. Hubby grumbles at me. But I stand firm...and call him a wuss. If it goes on at any other time (*faint*) then there's a checklist. Do you have socks on? Are you wearing a jumper? Wouldn't you like a nice fluffy blanket?

No chance. I don't have it on all the time, but it still goes on in the evening, we like to be warm.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0

I've just ordered a portable gas heater for the kitchen. My mum has one and it heats her room up in no time. I used to have one years ago when we didn't have central heating or double glazing but got rid of it as our last house was warm. This house - especially the kitchen, is freezing and we've had to have a halogen heater in there, even if the central heating is on. The room is too big for the size of radiator.
I'd rather pay for the calor gas as I went along than pay for the extra electricity i'm currently using though. It's a thought to go into the kitchen.0 -
Erm, we have an enormous heating bill. Something to do with having builders in and the heating being on all day with the front door open...
Since they left, however, we are getting it back under control. We like to be warm but we now have a combi boiler and a wireless heating controller which is set for 2 hrs in the morning and then to come on at 2.45 pm before DD and DS come home. If I am in by myself, I either keep warm by doing the housework or light a fire using all the waste wood from the bottom of our garden. What I like is that the heating will go back to its lowest setting when it crosses certain time zones, so any increase in temperature is soon cancelled out. We're working on having it a degree cooler.0 -

Heating down but not off in our house ( it is off upstairs except in the bathroom!) 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 3 hours at night
I have looked at that stuff before but it's not ideal for ours - all our floorboards are is the old pine and is full of hatches that have been cut for moving radiators and is basically full of great big holes. I think the previous owners just removed the carpet and sanded the floor for selling the house. Judging by the mankiness of the carpets they left in other rooms the living room carpet must've been minging. But the floor as it is is no great feature and so we'll do something next year about replacing it and insulating it -hopefully find a grant to help!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I wish I had somewhere to burn all our waste wood (3 trees worth). I'd save a fortune.
Taken last week but wood still there! That's just some branches you see. The trunks are also there.0 -
My central heating has not been on yet in the house ,but then I don't live in it my son who does just uses the wood burner and that warms up the back of the house and as he is out at work all day that seems to be enough .
I live on a boat and it has central heating but have only used it a couple of times when we have run low on coal ,other than that again it is the woodburner and as it is a small area the boat never gets cold .0 -
I turned mine off 2 days ago after getting an £81 months gas bill along with £52 electric, since being made redundant last month i'm conscious of the money now.0

Tuck trackies or pjs into big bed socks. Looks ridiculous but stops the bottom of the trouser draft!
LOL, sitting here with my jammie trousers tucked into my fluffy £1 primark socks as we speak!!!!! I've always done this, the kids have started doing it too. DH just looks at me with disdain!!!!!!:D
