Is your heating ON or OFF?

Ok, you have all shamed me into knocking off an hour off the heating in the evening.
I wish I could turn the heating off in the bedroom all together but everything in my wardrobes go musty and some of it even gets mildew on it if I do! Yuk! This house is so damp it's shocking.
Where I lived before I used to but now I can't sleep with the window open either as there is lots of traffic (read police cars and ambulances!) all hours and lots of late night revellers from the pub at the end of the road.

mine is on hardly at all now. I have put the thermostat in a sunny room at 16 so the house is warm first thing and then it stays off all day. I turn it up to 17 and shut that door, which is our lounge and we`re in there watching tv or reading. The heating is absolutely fine and having the wireless thermostat is making a big difference to the boiler powering on
We feel plenty warm enough0 -
Mine will be on for a while I'm afraid - I'm constantly cold (not sure why). I've even turned my office heating down to the lowest I can stand today (still can't feel my feet or fingers) and people come in and say its sweltering and take cardi's etc off!
At home it's on for two hours in the morning (big gap between OH getting up and when I do) and it's on from 5.30 until 10.30 but I may amend this tonight and get my hot water bottle out again0 -
we're lucky to live in an apartment with an open plan kitchen and lounge which is upstairs and bedrooms and bathroom downstairs. topsy turvy if you see what i mean. we've put up with 2 duvets and a blanket on the bed all winter, only had the heating on downstairs when we've had a shower. i cant get out the shower into a cold room. hate hate hate that!! our evening heating is provided by the oven and we have the heater on in the lounge for about half an hour before its boiling and then its off again. think we're pretty lucky to be honest. this place really holds the heat in well! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

Nope, not off yet, but slightly reduced!
Comes on at 5am, goes off at 8am; then back on at 5pm and off at 9.30pm...
It was going off at 10.30pm in the cold pinch the other week, but I have dragged the other quilt out of the wardrobe!
When it was really cold I put the heating on all night, slept fully clothed, had 2 15-tog quilts and a woolly blanket and my feet were still numb! :rolleyes:0 -
well thanks to this board, we have hardly switched it on! even when it snowed last week, we only had it on for 30 minutes in the morning, to get the house upto 17/18'c and maybe again in the evening. When we did get cold in the house, we would all go out for a walk and then we we came back in it felt nice a warm. Im in the house the majority of the day with my 2 children i home ed and my 3 year old. My 12 year old son comes in from school at 4pm and he sits in a tshirt most ! So im really proud of how we have managed the winter, primarks fleece blankets for 2 pound each were a great buy! plenty of home baking kept the kitchen nice and warm.0

Mine is off now and has been for a couple of weeks. I always used to be the one who was cold and DH was warm. It's the other way round now so I just don't turn it on. He tried to turn it on yesterday but as he was sitting in a t-shirt I made him put a sweatshirt on!
What I find really scary is that we only just came out even with out direct debit payment and our usage and that was without having the heating on as much as usual!! I think we were £4 in credit at the end of January. I'm sure we usually use more in this quarter too....time for everyone to wear two jumpers!!0 -
I have stopped mine in the evening as of last week, when it starts to get chilly the kids just grab their dressing gowns and wait it out till bed time, their beds are extra insulated with fleece underblankets.
It still comes on from 7.00-8.30 but wil have to reduce that soon as we are waking up stifling hot!0 -
I totally agree with everyone who said that they can't sleep in a warm room! I love a window open and that crisp feling - I also like the curtains open!
I am a bit mad!
It chuffs me off a bit that the boys in my house will walk around 'cold' in a t shirt and moan about teh cold. Hopefully my dictator ways will help us some save some cash when the bills comes!
Well done to all you frugal frugal people!!
EDT: Oh and primark fleeces were my saviour this winter - i've got five!House saving Targets:

Heating was officially turned off today. With temps of around 10 to 11 degrees, well it's positively Spring.:D0
