Oh thank you Julie! I'm so pleased someone sees my freezing to near-death since my heating bills have increased by God knows how much in the last month as oneupmanship, make me feel sooo much better!

I shall continue to hold out until 1st (unless it snows here :o ) regardless that it's so cold in my house my flannel doesn't even dry out between face washes  .

If you want to talk about Falklands I'll match you with how to live on an English pension any day.

Sorry all, I'll climb down from my soapbox and go off to my daughter who has invited me for a nice hot lunch in her nice warm house...I may not be back today..:rotfl:

    Amateur!

I'm sitting here naked apart from my undies, which are stuffed with ice cubes.

You lot are a bunch of losers, put the heating on in October!!! Might as well sell your daughters to Russel Brand.

We're continuing to keep the central heating off, but the gas fire in the front has been getting some use. It snowed here yesterday and today its very frosty.
  • I'm all for money-saving as far as possible, but please do be aware that people with respiratory problems (of all ages) need to live in an indoor 18C and up. No joke.

Not a sufferer myself so I prefer to layer up.
Went to bed last night in a t shirt nightie and bed jacket covered with 13.5tog duvet, blanket and bedspread. Lovely and snug, but bedroom temperature this morning had dropped to 9.8C Brrrrrr

Show off, just cos you're so well off you can afford to run your freezer for all those the ice cubes.Blatant one-up-man-ship if you ask me.

P.S...I've got three daughter's by the way do you think they're worth much.
I'd be happy with enough to pay the gas bill.

I caved in yesterday evening as well. I live in quite a cosy little newbuild flat (when I moved there in late November 2006 I didn't need the heating on until mid December!) but last night there was too much of a chill in the air for my liking, especially after having been caught in a downpour in my 30-second walk home from the bus stop.

The consideration for me is more environmental than financial, but obviously I don't want the heating on unnecessarily anyway. I'm one of those people who really notices how hot some people's houses are.

Funnily enough, if my workplace is at 20 degrees, I'm too cold, while if my flat is at 20 degrees, it's adequate

technically still haven't turned on the heating (only once to check it was working after we fixed it, it was a warm day outside). Woke up this morning to find house chilly but not down right cold, though may need to increase the number of blankets on bed.

Depends ;) but remember you'd have to put up with all those answer phone messages from Russell Brand

Same with me, I am sitting at work today and the temp is set at 21.5 degrees and that is still quite cold, at home the heating is usually on 18 Degrees or maybe 20 Degrees if really cold last night and that is quite hot. Strange that.

Mardatha, this reminded me of a conversation I had with my first husband (from somewhere North of Aberdeen) - he said (with the intent of making me feel sorry for him) that when he was wee he was so poor he had to walk to school barefoot and he had his first pair of shoes at age 12.

I was half horrified and half disbelieving and told him that I'd ask his mum if it was true (at which he quickly admitted that he was joking :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ).

They must all use the same sad line to try to get some sympathy. :rotfl:
Of course I told him his nose was growing. Pinnochio wanna be!
