The 4.5 tog duvet went into the sheet cover a few days ago and that is plenty warm to sleep, the window is on latch at night again though as with the duvet in it is overly warm but it was too cold without it in with the window shut before.

10C outside (refuse bins just put out !), 18C inside.
Heating on, just now, for 20 minutes - just enough to bring the rooms up to 19C, which is a comfortable indoor temp here.3 -
That's exactly what happened here last night Doom_and_Gloom!
I put the skinny summer duvet in the cover yesterday when I changed the bed, and by midnight it was too warm so I've had to put the window on the latch again. Warm bed + cool room - perfect.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
I kept feeling cold yesterday after I got in from the post office. I couldn't warm up even with a bath so I got into bed too and had an early night. I woke feeling warm enough this morning, though.2

We only tend to put ours on a couple of times a year so definitely not on here in south west Wales 😁
Our home is stone built (detached) with 2' thick, non-insulated walls so it tends to be cool in summer and not terribly warm in winter, lol, but I'm very frugal - and DH has picked up my habits - so it's bung an extra layer on rather than the heating. There's just the two of us living here so no kids to worry about, but we do have a couple of dogs who are in effect canine hotties as they tend to snuggle up on top of us on the sofa 😉😂
However, we do have a large wood burner in the kitchen (where we're currently camped out due to DIY building work) and a slightly smaller multifuel stove in the living room. The kitchen one has been lit a few evenings recently, but we only need to put a few logs in before it becomes unbearably hot 🙄 Fortunately we have our own supply of wood to burn....and a cosy kitchen sofa!
If I get cold during the day there's always a hot water bottle (although in the four and a half years since we bought this property I've never had to resort to one during the day time) or one of my wool or fleece throws.
We also prefer a cool bedroom so even on the extremely rare occasion we have the (oil-fired) central heating on, we have the radiator in our room off. It's definitely been getting cooler when going to bed at night but our goose down duvet is so toasty we soon warm up once in bed. In fact we tend to sleep with our feet outside the duvet till it gets really chilly (December usually)!2 -
Ours isn't on...Well, I say that. When we moved into this place a couple of years ago we got a multifuel stove put in in one of the reception rooms and that's on to take off the chill. 15C in our bedroom and quite a lot of wind and rain outside so trying to make it a bit cosier. But we're completely avoiding the central heating at the moment.
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!1 -
Our heating decided for us, and came on this morning, though it had switched itself off by the time we got up. The thermostat is kept permanently on 18C, otherwise we suffer damp problems (and we're at home all day anyway) We lit the first fire of the season in the stove last night, after we had spent the morning stacking the log delivery.

heard our heating click on for the first time this morning and just checked the meter and it's ticked up a unit so it's official!
i'd normally expect to wait until mid october but we had a few cool nights and the forecast for this next week is a bit dire so oh set the thermostat to 16 a couple of days ago. still haven't had our first fire of the year as i'd really like to wait until the chimney is swept in a couple of weeks but we'll see how that goes.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

It seems despite the reality of global warming that October 1st still seems to be the time when the winter chills first seem to bite !
Still at least we're not suffering from the sort of Hurricane/Tornado which seems about to hit Florida.5
