My biggest problems are keeping my wrists and ankles warm. I'm not a fan of socks but do wear them in the winter and of course I can't use a computer if I'm wearing gloves.  I do have a pair of fingerless mitts and will be looking to get some more of those.  And what I really need are leg warmers - don't want to relive the 70s but they would be handy to keep my ankles toasty.  For now I have a crocheted blanket over my lap and down to my feet but it's not really helping the ankles.  I am going to keep an eye out for really long sweatpants, perhaps the ones with the cuffs.  Or cut up some old socks to make my own mini warmers.

@Brie - I gave in last year and bought leg warmers. I don't regret it for a minute (and no one can see them!). I also have wrist-warmers from TurtleDoves, and have some old cashmere jumpers that I've felted sitting by the sewing machine waiting to be made into more. Mind you, they've been waiting for nearly a year now...

  • Last year my heating went ON on 5 November when it was 13 deg C in my sitting room and finally OFF this year on 13 April when it had been higher than that for a few days.

So I'm expecting to not have heating on for a while as this morning's early morning temperature was 18.5 deg C.

I dont ever turn it off but in mornings it has been coming on now I have temperature set at 20 permanently day and night and this equates to 18250kwh per year £1163 per year and standing charge £96=1259 less 400= 859 pa or £72 per month.  We are on a pension and this is a priority for me Same as food.  You cannot be happy if you are cold. £72 is a tenth of my bills budget and not as expensive as other bills when you think how important it is.

Still chilly indoors here so the heating went back on this evening, as did a pan of hearty soup and a second pair of socks! However, walking in the sunshine this afternoon, we got quite hot.

We've put ours on for an hour tonight for a 'test run' to make sure it's all working as it should.
I also needed to finish drying some bedding as it rained earlier before it could dry completely.
