Our heating is 'on' 24/7/365 but only kicks in when the temperature goes below 15C at night or 20C during the day. It's been on a couple of days this week but nothing to get stressed about. I've only (in the past week) discovered that it might be advantageous for us to consider replacing our 1985 radiators with new ones... doubt I'll be able to find someone to do it though....#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3663

Still off and our lounge is at 20.5. The advantage of living in a terraced house - we let the neighbours heat our home.
Not sure I will get aay with it for much longer though as dh is complaining its cold ( he is very slim and really feels the cold meanwhile I am in a short sleeved blouse)

On now for us, at least for a couple of hours morning and evening to take the chill off. The 18 month old wakes if he's too cold so the extra fuel is worth the money for more sleep! Plus we still have about 1900 litres of oil and electric showers so I think we are okay for a while...5

Arrived early this morning to another hot house, must have been running all night long.
I took radical action and set all 4 thermostats to 14; when I'm cold I'll adjust the temperature to the necessary zone and not the whole house. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.3 -

I actually put the central heating on for a couple of hours on Thursday, not so much because it felt cold but that the house felt really damp - we tend to keep windows open in every room and hall plus back door is open all day and it had poured for days. So closed most of the windows and back door for a few hours and put heat on 20 with room radiators all on 3 and that sorted it out and its back on its normal 16 again (when it does get really cold, we leave it on 18 all the time). Temp did dip low last night as radiator in bathroom came on - not sure for how long, hubby noticed it when he went in around 5am and that is with thermostat still on 16. Lovely sunny dry day today so even more windows open to give a good airing to house as it is windy but not cold. I admit we have never been ones to refuse to put on heat because of date. We wrap up but if dampness in the air can be middle of summer and heat would be put on. We are on prepayment meters (many eons ago hubby went self-employed, we had three young children and we had them put in to ensure we never had a massive bill to suddenly find, if he had not had any work. Back then no help if you could not pay and you could be cut off even with under-fives and although more expensive it still suits us to pay as we go, no debts and never once have we not had power or heat when we wanted it.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

This collection of debris is called 'sludge' and it's a good reason to replace old radiators.I suppose if they are decent you can pay for a flush.“You’re only here for a short visit.
