Is your heating ON or OFF?

caronc, it's shocking how much water it collects, isn't it??
The first week or so you'll be emptying it every day as it pulls all that excess moisture out of the walls. Then it'll settle down & you won't be emptying it as often.
I've had mine a few weeks now & I've settled on leaving it switched on 24/7 at 55% & it cycles on & off, permanently positioned at the bottom of the stairs - basically the middle of the house. It feels lovely & comfortable indoors now, compared to before.
Best thing I ever bought, wish I'd gotten one sooner!0 -
Definitely should have thought about one long ago - it can chunter away until it's happy with the levels, I've set at 55% too. Will be interesting to see how much it collects over the next few days especially as the kids are home so it will be 4 showers per day instead of one and it doesn't look that wonderful "house airing" weather!!!Novice_investor101 wrote: »caronc, it's shocking how much water it collects, isn't it??

Definitely on now although only on a timer, couple of hours in the morning and the same at night0

1 hour in the morning, just to keep the pipes going.0

Adjusted my heating timer from 1 hour to 1.5 hours in the mornings. Still set to the same times on the evenings, but I've been manually adding an hour or so if I've needed it.
Today feels a lot colder than we've had recently, & I've finally closed my bedroom windows. I used to keep them locked slightly open an inch to get some fresh air in, but the dehumidifier has sorted out any moisture issues & all I'm doing is letting cold, damp air (& noise) in & heat out. I still throw all the windows open on dry days for 30 mins to change the air, but the bedroom window will now stay closed.
(Bathroom one will stay locked open on the vent, I like the fresh air to circulate in there).0 -

Ours is set to 19 in the day and 17 at night. It's clicking on and off throughout the day, but doesn't come on when we are in bed. I swapped supplier to Bulb and they paid exit fees from previous supplier, so have built up a nice £180 credit ready for the cold months.Well Behaved women seldom make history

I use Bulb too and have been very pleased with the service. Also very disinclined to have a smart meter as when I did have one it wouldn`t work when I changed suppliers.
Hoping to stay in target this year.0 -
I have a small oil-filled radiator under my desk which I have turned on tonight - my feet have been cold all day today, since standing in the shade at the remembrance service in the Churchyard. It doesn't seem worth turning on the central heating just for an hour and I have an early night booked!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I finished the year at £2880.99/£3000 or 96.03% of my annual spend so I am sticking with a £3000 annual budget for 2026

This year we have installed Thermostatic Radiator Control Valves which give us lots of control over the time individual radiators come on and what temperature they bring the room to.
It's great because I can be frigidly frugal and OH can be toasty warm and nothing gets heated that doesn't need heating!0
