I am absolutely stunned by your gas usage. In July and August, for example, I used less than 1kWh per month, and that was heating the water for 20 minutes a day.

I don't see how you can only use 1kWh of gas a month to heat water. That is about 1 M3 a year, at a cost of about 33pence.

I have a new combi boiler that only heats the water on demand and for 2 showers a day and cooking that is where the gas goes.

The gas consumption of the boiler is 30 kW so for 2 7.5 minute showers that is 7.5 kW then the rest goes on the gas cooker.

Not to digress from the main topic, but please could those posting about their dehumifier, state the make and model.

    Thanks

We have an ebac 3650e, it's max usage is 320watts. It also has an air purifier mode which gets used from time to time. Wouldn't be without it. When the last one broke down we got this one as soon as we could.

Them's the figures for June, July and August. I don't have a smart meter but I'm quite religious about taking my monthly readings. My water consumption isn't that high because I no longer use the power shower - I wonder if that is what explains the bills?

My figures are from my old boiler, which was about 15 years old but seemed fine. I replaced it a few weeks ago anticipating a more efficient winter. There is no way I would have opted for a combi boiler, I cannot stand having to wait a few seconds for hot water to run through the system so I can wash my dishes. I'd rather switch it on for a few minutes in the morning and have the water hot all day. The old one was 22W, I asked the installer what kind of power I'd need in the house if I wanted to install a further bathroom and he suggested 24W would be more than adequate, which is what I have now. As for cooking, I have a gas stove but it barely gets used :rotfl:

Heating is definitely going on this evening, though. I haven't quite committed to having it on timed settings as yet.

We are both over 73 years old.
Last year we used 13500 kWh of gas for heating and hot water and cooking.
In the summer when the heating is off we use about 11 kWh of gas a day so the heating portion is about 9500 kWh of gas a year.
Where are you taking these readings from? Your IHD (In Home Display) or from your meter?

If you are taking readings from your IHD, be aware that it is a kWh reading shown on the top right, but suppliers want their readings in M3. On my own 'Secure' branded IHD, gas readings are shown in kWh.

This can be proved by checking it against your smart meter and pressing 9 until you see IMP KWH - the next numbers displayed will be your meter reading in kWh. Again, press 9 on the meter until VOLUME is displayed - the following numbers are your meter reading in M3. You will also see KWH or M3 as the readings are displayed.

As my current supplier (Utility Point) does not yet support smart meters, I take readings directly from the meter every so often. I always give the M3 reading and never the kWh reading.

dehumidifier is meaco compressor low energy 20l, I got this size because I want the whole house dehumidified if necessary. It is very smart looking and has an optional hepa filter

Poppellerat that is extremely good advice. I shudder to think that these people may have been paying well over the odds for some time

Sstove on this evening as I had a full day out and felt bone chilly. It is still on but now smouldering. I`ll be finishing all my kindling and firelighters then will forever be using my grenadierlighter, warming the flue first

My heating isn't one yet and I seem to getting addicted to looking how much Im spending by looking at the smart meter! My dd's dont bother looking at theirs but they both work and I don't. I cant afford to go mad with the heating so Ive just upped my payment so hopefully when it gets too cold I will feel justified in being able to turn it on. Is anybody else like this?

Funnily enough, I am half intrigued watching my annual usage very slowly fall, but I suppose I have been taken over by how much extra credit I am building for what I have long been suspecting will be a harsh winter.

I don't even feel cold either. Being properly dressed in comfy clothing helps for a start! I find it's most important to keep your legs and feet covered. If I feel a little cool, I can either put a dressing gown on top of me and perhaps even tuck up under a throw.

I am not going to reach silly temperatures just so I can tell an internet forum that I still haven't got my heating on. But am I not going to waste money by putting heating on when I needn't have to.

My living room got sleepy warm yesterday evening, you cannot beat a stove or fire for doing that, result was a full 8 hours sleep for a change, I practically fell into bed, was so relaxed. I did empty my dehumidifier yesterday, suddenly it was half full from empty, in one day. So humidity is eratic, depends on outside air. All that water would have gone somewhere, walls, windows, wardrobe who knows. I switched if off last night and it is just on again with an empty tank. This is a brand spanking new modern house, they finished the build 18 months ago and it has been drying ever since. Quite an eye opener tbh, I neverexpected as much water in a day. I am standing it in my bedroom doorway during the day, it needs space all around it

I do think people under-estimate the amount of humidity in a new built house, especially if it the early stages, until the roof is on, have been constructed in wet rainy weather, Bricks absorb an awful lot of moisture.

We waited about 18 months after moving into our new building before we had cavity wall insulation added, and the combination of it drying out and the extra insulation was somewhat remarkable.

On! But only in the last few weeks.

It's set at 16° and so far only comes on in the morning although it's programme to come on in the afternoon and evening.

We're in the Midlands so it's still quite mild.
