we had ours on last night for an hour, house heat up quickly and is well insulated so holds the heat
The dehumidiier is out of storage for the winter, have had it running since Tuesday night and have had to empty it 3 times already, cant believe how much moisture must be in the air as we have only had a tiny bit of condensation on the windows
Heating thermostat not working properly, I am waiting for the man coming to fit a new one next week. Will just flick heating on and off as needed until then though as have asthma so being too cold isnt good, fine balance between too cold and too dry air for me though
  • Ours is on, woke up and our bedroom was 9 degrees!

Rest of the house is at 17/18 degrees but have put it on because of the condensation so going to get the dehumidifier out and set up.
  • I have just put my electric fire (and the light) on in my living room.

As soon as the sun disappears behind the building opposite it cools rapidly, then seems to stabilise as it gets fully dark.

My CH is set at 18.5C and kicks in every now and again in the evening, but I need to get a reliable thermometer as I need to set each radiator.

Too warm now, so fire switched off!:o

If you ate more you would be warmer. I used to work in an unheated workshop. In the winter I used to eat tons of food and didn't put on weight. I didn't get cold either.

I haven't needed it on all week as the sun warmed the front of the house, but today it's been at 13 degrees so after a day of housework and fleeces I shall be putting it on very soon! Can't face a shower in a cold room. :-)

It got down to 20 in the living area and I won`t let it go below so have set the thermostat on an electric heater. Bedroom is 19 and I do not like below 18, so there is a heater in there set on 18. The fabric of the house is bound to cool down now as I don`t see any sun until sunday. I set the pellet stove to come on from tomorrow, 3 hours from 5 to 8 and that will warm the utility as well as the rest of the house but the utility has the master radiator so gets warmest and then it releases the warmth during the rest of the day. The bedroom rads are about 12" long by 4" high and the bathroom and en suite have towel rails that get warm with the stove. An eco house so does not cool quickly. The downside is getting the tonne of pellets delivered on a pallet, then we have to move and store them dry, hence the electric backup as we are getting older

  • Lit the woodburner last night and the fire pit was blazing away because we had a bonfire night party.

I have just lit it again tonight, it heats the whole house if I leave the doors open so still no CH.
I have the airers up in the front room airing off the washing that was on the line today, it dried but it was cold iyswim.
Won't take long in front of the stove :)
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I keep it on all day as it's a big house with massive high ceilings and takes forever to heat up, so it's easier for me to keep it warm.

Im with you on your post, me too hate being cold and yes id rather be short of food than heat , the cold makes me very miserable indeed....
My gas central heating come on timed at 6 this morning , and I turn it off as the sun warms a lot of my south facing windows ....As im now in the sitting room ive lit the fire , as I only use one room of a evening the fire keeps the one room lovely and warm so I dont use the GC heating , plus my wood is free, dogs comfy right in front of the hearth ......
