  • Just put it on low, really cold here & I checked the thermometer in the hall & it said 15oC so i thought it probably should go on, will only be on for a few hours tho. Definite drop in temperatures today & an expected frost tomorrow night.

It's not so much the cold as the damp today - has rained continuously.

No central heating but have the stove lit and going full pelt and a hwb!

Haven't made many provisions for winter but have topped up anti freeze in the car.

I caved today and put my heater on in the front room - I only have electric panel heaters so it's instant heat, then instantly taken away when it turns off :(
  • Seems almost like a competition to see who can leave it off for the longest :P

If I need heating on I'll put it on especially if I'm getting drenched at work.

Or getting drenched playing footie in my case. Main reason I bought a wood-burner..

BTW, I wanted that nick. You're the culprit! :) Still, the one I got is OK.:D
  • We haven't got any heating here at the moment because we just haven't needed it, no other reason and even today down here in the depths of Hampshire outside is 8.5 and inside is 19.2. We DO have the house as insulated as possible and close doors between rooms and pull the curtains as it gets dark but that's a lifestyle choice. No competetiveness here, just common sense and long experience!

MrsLW, I haven't had the heating on much yet (only when guests appear), but like you I had cavity wall, good loft insulation, updated boiler and the best double glazing I could afford a couple of years ago, so the house is well insulated it certainly pays for itself, I also had solar panels as well whilst I could. I'm getting ready for retirement now so I'm down grading the garden to make it easier for me, had facias etc done so now just have to get it redecorated inside and I'm ready.

    So heating still off!!!

  • Heating not on.

Having said that I've got a coat on and had a double whisky!
  • We get the sun in front room until about 2pm, heating went on for about 3hrs. I`m asthmatic and the cold plays havoc with my breathing.
  • Central heating is still off ... but I cheat and use the electric fire in the lounge until bedtime and then double duvet it all night :o
