C/H on for 7.00-9.00 am and 7.00-10.00 pm / 1 Radiator in Living Room and 1 on 'open landing' (upper floor flat with downstairs porch but it helps to direct some warmth into bathroom and 1 bedroom) / Thermostat set at 20deg. Never use bedroom or kitchen radiators.

Have a gas fire in Living Room, but only use it for very rare occasional boost - with the door closed - for around 20mins during the day.

When we go downstairs to the porch - where we keep the Tumble Dryer and large Freezer - you feel a 'blast of very cold air' around the 5th stair from the bottom HSshiver.gif.

On 24/7, now through to the end of about March is horrid for anyone with lung disease, dread getting an infection as it would mean instant hospitalisation so staying in and warm as much as possible. Swathed in scarves to cover the lower half of my face when I go out even to the bin as cold air contracts the lungs and makes breathing difficult. Hate winter :(
The above was brought on my years of smoking. Please don't smoke, or do try to stop if you can. Not a self-righteous ex-smoker, this plea is from someone who wouldn't wish this illness on their worst enemy.

Hi all, can I chip in here please.

Apologies if this has already been covered.
As I type, I'm sitting in my arm chair with my feet up on a stool.
Between chair and stool, in the gap, I have a small table lamp (Swedish made) on the floor with a 28w halogen bulb in it, (not the sort that doesn't give off any heat of course). With a blanket or single duvet over my legs I'm toasty warm. It means I'm heating my own personal space and not the whole room.

It's my take on the Japanese idea of 'Kotatsu'.

    Back to Lurkdom.
  • I'm putting it on for about 30 minutes, when I get home from work, to push the LR temp to about 60f, after which I turn it off again.
  • We haven't had ours on all day and I have submitted our meter readings for gas and electric and for the last month it was £94.84. Does that seem expensive for a 4 bed semi?
