  • Hi, interesting thread - thought I'd add my circs - our boiler is dying (oil) so we have switched off the ch, just keeping the hot water going as OH is convinced it will keep going for longer this way. We have just lit the oil Rayburn, decided years ago we could not afford this and the ch at the same time. Kitchen is really cosy, rest if the house is cold but I'm kind of liking it - reminds me of student days -plus we have a woodburner in the living room if it is really Arctic. All cooking, drying washing etc can be doe in or near rayburn, so hopefully will be saving electric. May be useful to someone else in similar circs. Much like childhood when we only had an open fire. Oh well, needs must! Def. need hwb at night tho.
  • LR was at 54.7f when I got home (about 40 mins ago), so I put the heating on.

It's now at 58.8f, and the heating has been turned off.

L R been 13c most of the week no heating on though wish I still had the gas fire just got 4 layers on need more that's the good thing about loosing a bit of weight I got new jumpers for me birthday smaller size so now all the stuff that's a bit big can go over the smaller ones without me being worried I'll stretch them out of shape just need to get me thermals out and that should be me nice and toastie warm again
house is a bit of a mess council have replaced the kitchen this week and before that they did the bathroom yay no getting scratches from old bath any more plastic bath gone enamel bath in nice plain white and
so shiny just got to put a proper blind up now to keep it warmer I'm not so sure about the extractor fan its on all the time and has a pull cord to boost it ? will it make the bathroom cold ?floor is warmer now cushion floor

kitchen too so that's saved me a packet they've put an extractor fan in the kitchen as well

All I need now is for them to fix the heating so it actually warms the house up when I do turn it on having a choice would be nice no point burning gas if it's not doing the job righty need a coffee and am out of milk so out into the cold for 15 mins then the house will feel toastie warm well at least for a while

I'm about to turn the heating on for an hour or so. Have tried moving around and also sitting under a blanket. My toes are frozen and I'm starting to feel miserable.

The only part of me that gets cold is my feet, I have a pair of normal socks on, with a pair of 2.0 Tog thermal socks over them, does the job :D

I have caved in this evening as I went out running in the rain and came back soaked (yes this is the person who claims to be sane!) so have decided to do my wash a day early and treat myself to the heating on while I watch the snooker :T

I bought an electric blanket from B and M for 20 quid, fabulous. My house is cold, windows need fixed so any heat that goes on in my house doesnt really do much, windows will be sorted within the next two weeks hopefully, but at least Im warm in bed. Wish I had bought one years ago.

I've only heated one room so far all winter as it's not really been cold enough. I have a dehumidifier for the rest of the house. I keep the living room at 18C and the rest of the house is mostly above 9C (normally 11C when it's not too cold). The good news is it's going to be mild again for the next two weeks. So long as my feet are warm I can handle low temps. I've been using a thick blanket as a throw while sitting and it has made the world of difference in keeping my feet warm.

Still doing really well, only had to put it on for the odd hour.Having a well insulated home makes a big difference don't think I would be able to keep it off so much if we didn't.Hoping milder weather continues and we don't get the bad forcast weather

Just been out for some bits and it is surprisingly mild with a little rain. Got the heating on low just to keep the damp at bay.

Hoping to keep the gas bill a bit lower so I can enjoy the heat when the arctic stuff arrives.
