  • I have our gas fire on which apparently costs 15p an hour to run as I have washing hanging about and not drying. Getting too much condensation from it all

I have just turned the heating on, and will turn it off at 9.30 tonight. We have it set at 20C.

I have no idea how much my gas fire costs to run.

I used to have a nice 3 bar gas fire, old fashioned style, which warmed the entire room up. When that packed in I had money so had a nice fireplace put in with a nice looking fire. It looks nice, but is quite pointless at doing what it's supposed to, I think 70% of the heat just goes up the chimney so I used my 3Kw fan heater instead... I don't see why the government spend so much time going on about insulation while not doing something about these totally inefficient fires that look nice but are mostly useless...

Had heating on as had a guest, but off now!

I've only had the heating on for two hours in total in the last week. It's still fairly mild here (so I'm told, hehe) so just wearing my fleecy tracky bottoms and magic fleece cardi indoors. My new welly socks from aldi are super at keeping my legs, feet and tootsies warm too :)

I don't have a chimney so ours is flueless so we get the benefit from all the heat rather than losing any up the chimney.
  • Off all day, but I have a client coming round to discuss some work so I guess I will have to put it on for a bit or they will think I am trying to freeze them, have been quite happy with 13-14C in the house today!

My acclimatisation project has an interesting side effect though, I visited someone's office the other day and they were just right but I was sweating - they had the aircon set to 19C as they liked it cool, LOL!

They keep going on about those and they don't happen.

It's when they say it's going to be pretty warm next week, that's when you worry :o

Hi, I have Economy 7 storage heating. At the moment I am only putting the storage heater on on my days off and only using the one in the lounge for 2 days a week only.
In the evening when I get home from work, if im cold ive started using a hot water bottle, fluffy slippers, pjs and dressing gown. I have my electric blanket switched on for half an hour before bed and then that gets unplugged and I use a hot water bottle.
I don't think its been as cold as last year. Unless im getting used to having less heating on. When I go round friends, there places are far too hot.
I checked my readings from around this time last year (Im still with the same company, as I switched last year. And YAY!! so far ive used £73 less than this time last year. Ive worked out that each storage heater would cost me around £10 each to use weekly. So that's an extra £80 per month. I don't use my bedroom one at all as I prefer a cold room with the window slightly open and a warm bed.
So I thought I would experiment this year and only use them when im at home on my days off. Im glad I did as the stored heat on my days at work were being wasted last year.
I know everyone is different. But for me itll mean I don't have to worry when I have time off over the xmas period as im in credit so I will be able to have at least one on when Im home.
  • Still off here, but the temp in my LR was just 55f, when I got up, so I expect I'll be needing the CH, in the near future.
  • Kids got up and spent the whole morning before school complaining that the house was so cold, felt like they were my Mother!

Living room was 15 degrees, our room was 10 degrees but not sure on their rooms, can't have been too low though so guessing about 15 degrees. DH has put the heating on whilst he is in the shower as he says 10 degrees when you get out the shower is a little bit chilly!

I hate having ME but love the side effect of being too warm all the time, I have no idea what they are complaining about! :rotfl:
