you can put plants in the middle of your veggies! I have marigolds in the middle of mine, as someone told me they encourage something or other that discourage something else that eats your veggies. I put garlic in the middle of my roses too. And lavender all over the place, but I use the lavender for my soap, so I think that's MSE.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Definite yes to companion planting! There are books, but if you google it, I bet you find enough information to save on a book.
You've reminded me - I have some roses in the front of this house, and again the stems are *very* long - one must be about fifteen feet, which is no good for me or the plant - I can snip that now, can't I, and just chuck the long stem by the compost bin to die a little....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
That's a good idea Gill, forgot about that. I've heard about Marigolds, but not Lavender and I love that. Just hope I have enough room now....
As for the roses, remember when I said my MiL whacked the one at the front practically down to ground level and I squealed in terror? Well, it's got loads of new buds now, so I just phoned her to put her put her mind at rest. She didn't sound at all surprised and said I can leave the rest of the climber until next year if I want to, but I've got until the end of March to prune it.
Just been having a look for greenhouses. It's not a big garden so I don't want a big one, and didn't want another plastic one after the other one fell to bits. But reading the Argos reviews, it seems that buying a walk-in plastic one might be better than a wooden growhouse:
a) It's bigger, so will fit more in
b) The kids will enjoy being in there - they love growing things
c) We now have a shed, so I can dismantle it at the end of the Summer, thus prolonging it's life.....
Off to measure up - thing is I fancied putting a nice bench where the greenhouse will be - not that I'll have any time for sitting down!0 -
They've got the plastic walk in ones in Wilkinsons at the moment, complete with all the staging for about £85 which seemed good value (although I've not actually checked the prices elsewhere so it might be pricey so I'll shush now)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Thanks Pooky, the one I've seen is £39.99 from Argoose - should be ok, it's had lots of positive reviews0

love all the gardening and flylady talk...think I need her emails to get me sorted.0

At the very least, Taxi, they give you focus, and sort of company in the tasks, as well as lots and lots of food for thought.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hi Taxi, I think you'd love her. As much as I'm impressed by the vigour of the flyladies on OS, for me it misses the point. She is so much more than just cleaning, so I'd say defo go to her site and sign up. Let me know what you think
Well I reluctantly went for my run this morning. I got out of the door and came straight back in because it was cold and wetThen I gave myself a talking to about the pros and cons and went back out and did 6 miles! :j
Then came home, got on the scales and have lost 2.5lbs :j:j:j:j:j I'm amazed, after last weekend's "drinkathon" and last night we went out for tea and although I ordered sea bass :A it came *swimming* in melted butter  I managed to navigate around that - though still demolished Hot choc fudge cake and ice cream for afters!:o:o
It was YUM!
So today, I have vouchers for 2 expensive department stores that I got for my birthday and run out today (only discovered that yesterday), and have been given a few hours to go shopping ALL BY MYSELF! :j Yippeeeee!!! And I can buy loads - but not spend anything! :j
I've had a bath, put on a hair mask and face masque (a freebie :money:), slathered myself in body lotion and ped-egged my tootsies
Still need to decide whether to collect the greenhouse and hose today or wait til after I get paid....might have to be the latter, though the greenhouse is the last one.....decisions.
Right must shake a leg, have a good day all xx0 -
Woo hoo to *having* to go to expensive department stores :j and losing tons of weight in spite of eating yummy butter-covered stuff
We want a list of what you buy2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Bought nothing sadly
Well I did get some bath oil with one voucher, as it ran out today - the others are good for another 6 months
I planned to get some Valentine's underwear but there was nothing I liked in my size and there was no point using the vouchers for sake of it.
I panicked last night when DD1 threatened DH to tell me "What he's got me for Valentine's Day" We don't usually do Valentine's - instigated by him. So I nipped to M&S and got their 2 for £20 meal deal. I'll get spruced up and make that tomorrow evening.
I did buy a funny card though. It's a cartoon one of an old woman sitting in bed in her curlers, knitting.
Her husband is standing next to a Wheel of Fortune where all the chances - bar one - say "NO SEX"
She says "Alright, you can have one more try seen as though it's Valentines" :rotfl: It's the only one which didn't make me wince or roll my eyes - so I had to buy it!0
