Sounds good to me - nice curtains, and Harry on the DVD ........ sigh ........... I might well pop to the cinema quite soon2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Sounds like a reasonable compromise regarding the curtain fabric. I didn't get as far as the fabric shop last week - something for me to try and do in the next few days instead.
Well done on getting out there for the run - I just did 3 miles too, and reckon that even just getting out there for something is pretty good going in this weather!

Well done on planning the curtains etc. A woman I work with was boasting about her new living room and was proud of the fact that her curtains cost over £1000:eek: She told us in the sense of 'I know none of you lot can afford curtains like that' - but she probably never even looked round to see if she could get them cheaper.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Oh yes Gill, another friend paid £500 for a tiny blind in her kitchen *faints* I guess it's easy to be scornful if you can sew, for people that can't I guess you have to bite the bullet...
Well, despite all my trying to be level headed and sensible, I really want to decorate the living room before Christmas
The colours are neutral, but a bit off - lemon above the picture rail and a peachy beige below and it irritates the hell out of me. The problem is that the wallpaper is textured and I'm sure it was very expensive, but it's too chintzy for us. If we (well, I) take it off, experience has taught me that in old houses, half the plaster comes off with it. So it might not end up being a "2 tins of paint" weekend job.
The alternative is to paint over the paper. I'm not sure this will work. The paper is difficult to describe, kind of like fabric jacquard and probably quite thick (which makes me think that the walls are very uneven underneath). Think I'll have to investigate and maybe do a test behind the sofa to see if it'll look ok.
Well, my brother came with my nephew who is not yet 2 and quite a handful. DH and smiled to each other when he started kicking off at teatime - so glad we're out of that phase!
Now Strictly's over tonight will be a chilled affair reading the papers, then an early night as I have a 6 mile run to do in the morning.0 -
Good luck with that! That sounds like you could be setting yourself up for a long job .....2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Old houses and weekend decorating are mutually exclusive in my experience we once decided to do a quick paper of my son's bedroom six months later after a major replaster and a huge hole in the wall when we tried to run a central heating pipe and hit a huge boulder we finally finished so play it careful

be careful I stripped my hallway months ago ..lol and need a complete replastering job...my house is very old as well...still not plastered yet as illness got in the way.0

We totally renovated our last house and lived with exposed wiring and gaping floorboards for years in our hall and landing.
I gave birth to little DD at home and was mortified when our GP called later that day to see her. She had to gingerly step across a whole in floor!
So, I will sort the curtains and curtain pole and paint the walls white above the picture rail and cornicing. That will do until next Spring/Summer.
I planned to go for a run this morning, but ended up with an upset stomach, so will try and go this evening.
DH has gone out on his bike, so we are going to buy a new loo seat (glamour) and call in to see my parents. Then I'll probably do some more on the garden if my bowels behave:o:o
Have a good day all0 -

This is a very interesting discussion, I find. As you all know - we did spend; probably not so much on things. We spent partly because of silliness (OH and me, this is). Still there are things that even when I did spend, I could not understand.
For example, why are people so proud that they spend far too much on something? It is just showing off and I find it very diffcult to stomach. On the other hand, spending much less without compromising quality requires so much talent and ingenuity - this is what people can be pround off. This is what initially attracted me the MG's tread. This is why I am so proud that I have learned to give three course French menu dinners for £1.50 per person.
Go figure - but there is a lot of shallowness around.
