    Hi Folks,

Have started Msing seriously now and signed on with lots of companies. I was just wondering what you tell your friends about what you do? So far I have been a bit cryptic but have you come clean or kept it secret?

    Would love to know,

    Mamashaz

I don't tell people. They want to know what agencies I shop for and want to register too. Also, some people think it's all a bit sad. So I prefer to keep it a secret. Most of my friends think I have lost the plot with all the trainers and sports items I buy, and free meals etc.
  • My friends know, they think it's a peculiar way to earn a living, but they also know that glitterkandy+regular job=disaster. It keeps me out of trouble and off benefits and that's all they really care about.

Close friends know, but people I know in passing like in the school yard know I do merchandising work. When I look around the school yard and see several uniforms for places I do MS work, I don't really want all and sundry knowing I do MS work :D

Causes friction if you tell people sometimes. My neighbour was upset because I wouldn't write down a list of companies I work for to give to her son, who lives a few streets away. I told her to tell him to look on the internet and find them himself, and she thought I was mean for not handing it all to him on a plate :o Yes of course I'll write down everywhere I work for, and he can just waltz in and take all my work away from me!
Here I go again on my own....

I had something similar. A friend wanted to know who her daughter could apply to while she was off Uni. Told a little white lie and said I do all my assignments for gapbuster and don't work for any others :rotfl:

This is the second time in a couple of days that someone has posted the question I was thinking - spooky! Only a close friend and immediate family know that I MS, I see Becles has called it merchandising work - does anyone else have any other job titles which answer the question but dont let on what it actually is?
Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed. ;)

This is the main reason I keep it quite discreet. My close circle of friends know I do it, and that's fine, as I know that as they all have 'proper' jobs they won't be wanting to start doing it aswell. They are generally just really nosey, because it's one of those things that people have heard of, but don't actually know much about so it's interesting.
Although I did direct my sister in law to this thread as she was finding things a bit tight money wise and as she has done a lot to help us out, I wouldn't be selfish to her and try and discourage it. Particularly as she works different times, and as I don't drive at the moment there are jobs that she could get to that I couldn't etc. Plus I know that she wouldn't take everything going, and would let me know if she saw a job that she thought I would want to do.
Generally Mystery Shopping is just a good conversation point to people who don't know much about it. I just miss out moaning on about quite how silly and tedious the reports can get *cough* RE *cough*!

Have decided I definately like Grass Roots though. And am currently trying to decide the best postcodes to use to try and get more work from them. So far I live in a couple of supermarkets!
Would anyone mind sending me a quick PM with some of their other regular clients, so I can try and pick the best postcodes to maximise the number of jobs I see, as I've only seen 3 clients so far with them since I joined. Would be fab :D

I use that one too. I tell some people what I do, others not. I tend to mention that I work for Retail Eyes and a few other folk.

Anyone do suits in the Glasgow Area? I have to do a bit of personal shopping for a client for my non MS job. I felt a right prat yesterday engagement rig shopping 'for myself'.

I just applied for a react job in South Glamorgan. Well, Glasgow, scotland actually, it's just listed as south glamorgan.

Thanks folks. I have taken one of my good friends for a meal at a very nice restaurant and one or two others know now. My kids think I am a spy on shops and just the other day my DD (age 10) told me that the clothes I was wearing were not suitable for the spying job I was doing that day!

I think I like the term Retail Auditor best and am going to call myself that.

There is one particularly annoying mum in the playground who has been asking me for the past 6 years when I am going to get a job! I am now going to tell her that I am a self employed Retail Auditor and have to do lots of travelling with my new position!
