It looks as though there is an increasing number of Jersey based internet businesses of questionable integrity and ROK maybe just the latest addition. Given that Jersey police are not prepared to investigate possible fraud of UK mainland customers without a referral from UK police and the UK police are not prepared to refer to Jersey, it looks as though the island has become a paradise for internet fraudsters.
Beware of any Channel Island internet business unless it's known to be trustworthy and even then consider that memorybits apparently once were.
To be fair, many companies have set up in the Channel Islands to avoid the huge tax rates on the mainland (largely as a result of the ineptitude of the last government) - so there are legitimate reasons for legitimate companies to set up there.
These guys obviously seem like a joke (see Misspiggy2010 for confirmation) but the poster who says not to judge all Channel Island companies by these is making a valid point (Play.com have been operating from the Channel Islands for years and are a great company).0 -
Just something else to throw into the mix. Many companies trading in high value small items such as memory, computer chips and mobile phones get involved (either purposefully or not) in carousel fraud. The fact that these guys are based off-shore and trade in the above should start alarm bells ringing. Beware who you give your credit card details to folks.0

Agreed, I've bought from other Channel Island companies and will continue in the future. However, the fact that fraudsters can use the islands as a base for their activities without fear of attracting the interest/actions of the law, either here or there, must be a great bonus and comfort to them.0 -
Since we're all dropping memeorybits like a stone, or should I say Rok. Can anyone recommend some alternatives.
In the good old days Memorybits & R4 had some good stuff and some sweet deals. 30% off was I think the best one I had.0 -
shouldn't we be contacting trading standards and watchdog...
they would listen to what's been going on, with the amount of folk that used them.0 -
Well I have just recieved an email update from the above mentioned scammers and what they are now saying is they are NOT going to honner anyones order from the 29th September 2010 i.e. the so called 60% 24hr sale (going bust so called scam) what they are now saying is for everyone who has paid by visa debit card to contact there bank who issued the card i've done this today and its what you call a chargeback on your visa debit card its like the same sort of insurrance you have with a credit card if you can prove that you haven't recieved your goods when paying with your visa debit card i.e. because the company has gone bust/under you can claim all of your money back through your bank and visa debit with whats called CHARGEBACK i'm just waiting for the paper work off the visa debit department side. Just getting back to the Memorybits crap this new company that has bought out Memorybits (The Rok Group) would not trust these either as far as you could throw them they say they have nothing to do with Memorybits i think thats a big lie if you go onto the memorybits.co.uk site then go right down the bottom of there home page i'm sure it says something about the rok group so stay well clear or you might get your fingers burnt again and to rub more salt into the wound they had the nerve this is the rok group to say we can't refund you your money back but as a good will gester here is a 25% discount code to use when the site is up and running again as if. Just to end STAY WELL CLEAR OF THE ROK GROUP (memorybits,zoombits).0

I placed 2 orders on the same day, and I received one order and not the other. I'm in the process of finding out if I can claim my 30 pounds back from my credit card company.
These people, who bought a sinking ship (that's if they genuinely are new owners), haven't really tried very hard in the damage control department. First they lied about helping customers with their orders (when clearly they had no intention), then they continually gushed over their 'new business' and said things like 'were pleased to announce....' and THEN they told us to bog off and asked us to continue shopping with them. They didn't even offer up any advice on claiming the money back but simply said to 'claim a refund'.
These people can't have good business sense at all. IMO a bit of tact and some info would have gone a long way, but instead we were lied to, told to forget about our orders, then offered a discount as if we were ever going to shop there again.
Scammers, I hope they go out of business. their name is becoming mud and they won't care until they have no customers left to scam.0 -
I have had the same email as the rest.
I am contacting every social networking site to show this company for what they are
Thank you for your email, we completely understand your frustration, and apologise for any inconvenience caused by the previous owner.
Your order was placed before 14/10/10 when we ROK took over MemoryBits, the 60% was offered by the previous owner and we are trying our best to fulfil order placed by customers before our take over. Unfortunately there are some orders that we are not able to fulfil as we do not have the stock for these orders.
When we ROK purchased the company, we purchased the website/name and what little stock was available to purchase, again there was not enough stock to fulfil all orders placed. We have also purchased stock from suppliers for which we are using to fulfil orders and are therefore not making anything from these orders to start with.
We are sorry that we cannot fulfil your order and highly recomend that you contact your bank/PayPal and claim any money that left your account.
We fully acknowledge that on this particular occasion, this may have been a stressful shopping experience with ZoomBits.Co.Uk. We assure you that as the brand new owners of this already successful store, this is the beginning of a new process of striving to achieve excellent levels of Customer Service with all previous and future customers
Yours Sincerely,
Kind Regards
