Sorry for just jumping in - not much time and rushing through the diaires but felt I had to say CUP CAKES! I have been amazed recently when out working how many people are supplying Cup Cakes to businesses for lunches and celebrations at astronomical prices. I recently went to a a new citizens ceremony in Wales where they gave cup cakes out. The registrar told me that they were a cinch at only 2.50 each:eek and they tasted like cardboard. Good thing was they had a daffodil icing top! That is it. Cup Cakes are really a BIG Fashion in Wales DT.
The lady who does my dog walking sometimes is now making cup cakes and says she is making a killing, much more than dog walking and she charges £20 per hour for that!

A nursery sounds absolutely ideal for you or registered child minder
  • I appreciate the suggestions with regard to childcare but that is already my job with fostering and I would really like to do something in the grown up world as a contrast as I still envisage that we will carry on fostering does that sound strange?

That sounds reasonable BUT as you Foster this means that you have all the CRB checks and so could do holiday care easily for say three or four children - it okay not bring in a fortune BUT would add to the family funds

I can totally understand this but if you think 'big' you would be employing nursery nurses and you would be doing all the grown up stuff, ie admin, dealing with parents, staff, training etc?

That's what I meant :D The aim here is to make serious money, no? You wouldn't have to be hands-on, but have the necessary skills, vision and drive to provide good quality care and then watch the ££'s roll in.

Both our kids went to a private day nursery from 5/6 months old until school age and at one point we were paying £1000 a month. Now there were cheaper alternatives, but we wanted the best care for our precious babies. There was a huge waiting list and this person now has 4 nurseries......

    Think "big" ;)
  • Thank you for your big thoughts yes I would like to make serious money but I need to start small I don't have the capital nor do I want to borrow large amounts which would be needed as the idea is to be debt free and I am not prepared to take big risks at the moment it would not be fair to the family. Starting small in child care would mean being home based and again I think the family has to adapt enough for fostering I don't want to add to that.

I have had another idea and those of you that belong to the matrix can read about it there and when I have a better idea whether it is likely to be a starter I will let you know but I don't want to infringe any MSE rules.

Thanks for all your input it has helped me crystallise what I am prepared to do and what I am not and just let me say that Macgirl one of your posts started the chain of thoughts :T and no it is not IRONING :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
