This is not good being my first post since NYE.
I have been busy chasing ideas for business but this is now firmly on hold and also started full on introductions for our new foster child who arrives on Monday.
Not sure whether to start a new diary as we have had a bit of a reality check today with a letter from the accountants which basically means that we have to take yet a further paycut this is becoming a bit of a habit. The poor weather over Christmas has also badly affected the business so there is the possibility of a further cut next year. Looking at the figures we have to take at least a third paycut perhaps a little more which means that this year our income will be less than half what it was when we ran up the debts in the first place  ironic really that we couldn't live within our means then but we are going to have live within our means on less than half. What I would give to have just one year on our previous income but it is no use crying over spilt milk we just have to get on with it.
I had intended curbing our spending but now I have to stop playing at it and really trim it to the bone. I haven't heard about the census job which is a good thing because if I had I would have booked a trip to disneyland Parisnow I just need the job and all holidays are off the agenda.
The same goes for the new business I don't have the luxury of spare capital to invest and I can't wait for a long term return a good idea but bad timing.
So tonight's task will be calculator and back of envelope job to see how I can get the figures to add up.
But as I said to my OH cuddles are free and we have each other and a lovely family so we will get through this.
From a very chastened DT who has had a long think in the bath again (might have to ration these baths:rotfl:not very MSE) but they do let me get things into perspective and it is better than comfort eating that is one thing that is already off the agenda trips to expensive diet clinics are definitely not on so it is a good job I have lost the weight and now I will have to deal with the maintenance on my own.

Ah sorry to hear that lovey and I'm here if you want to talk budgets, diets or anything else! XXX'The road to a friends house is never long'0

You can do this - you have proved by losing the weight that you can do anything that you want to when you put your mind to it - so you will get through this, and will be better off for it too.

Just popped by to catch up and wish you a happy new year. Read your latest post and thought that it might be inappropriate given the news from today. Then I thought NO, you still deserve a happy new year. What you say about cuddles is lovely. I often tell Mr C that I have as many hugs as he ever needs, they cost nothing but make you feel a million dollars!.
You have a great base to face the future with. New You, new outlook and positive attitude. All of that will see you through. I once read the mantra I have more than enough for my needs and I come back to that every time I am feeling that I am struggling. When you have done your budgets if you have anything at all left over (before debt busting) after paying the essential bills then remember you have more than enough for your needs, you just have to find how to get what you want!
Good luck with it all. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
I was just about to say "Have one of your infamous baths and your head will clear", then got to the end of your post :rotfl:
As you say - better than overeating
I agree with Hypno and Cheri. You have been through tougher times than this and after you have slept on it, will see that you can get through this too.
What I have learned this year, is that things can take an unexpected turn at any time. You have seen the bad side of that in the last 12 months and I think you are due a change in fortune.
Have faith and keep cuddling. Thinking of you xxx0 -
Yep, keep cuddling. I'm sorry you've had another knock, DT, and you feel like you don't have the time to get planning on a new business, but have to earn money straight away. Its certainly familiar to me, that feeling - and you *can* get throug it, definitely. The determination you've shown in losing the weight, in supporting your family, even in making it to Glasgow through the snow - you can do anything when you focus on it with all your determination.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Well I have done the figures and it is excruciatingly tight but in theory we can do it but there is no room for error or disaster which is not a comfortable position to be in because as we all know too well life has a way of throwing lots of curved balls - I am not very happy about the figures as there is no jiggle room at all I have cancelled a couple of direct debits and will have to look at each bill and see if there is any room for improvement - the other worry is that the budget is based on last year's figures with no uplift for inflation or the VAT increase. I will also have to see what I can sell as this is the only way that this is going to work.
The long term solution has to be to sell the villa but that may not be easy and that then leaves us with no fall back position should the business go completely pear shaped it has survived 140 years but in this day and age that is no guarantee for the future. This is not looking good and I don't know how long we will be able to live at this level of austerity and I certainly can't see us being able to trim the budget any further. If interest rates go up we are completely stuffed.
The bright side I have had a NSD I will need a few more of these if this is going to work.
