  • KC I would love the name although I have resigned from some companies so they may not want me back.

Yes DH is practically full time on no wages seemed a good idea at the time :( he will be cutting down on the fast car habit he has offered to sell but I know that when we get out of this particular poo he would want another and this is a good one so not cost effective unless the poo really hits the fan then it will have to go. He is so good around the house that I really can't ask him to do more and if I manage to get a job he will need to be here. Also he is 11 years older than me and did go through a period of bad health so don't want to push him too hard. Even low key touting of undertakers would be frowned upon and no there is no travel expenses and the fee is ludicrous for the time taken but he actually enjoys funerals he thinks it is a real opportunity to meet people's needs and a fee is a fee and not to be sniffed at.

Yes Pippajo I am glad we know now before I do anything else that would commit money but of course you always say if I had known before I wouldn't have done x,y and z

I need to book a hotel in Cardiff for Saturday night as we have to take OS back and collect his car so that is going to eat into this week's budget quite a bit think I might do it tomorrow so I get another NSD is that cheating? Have warned OS that I will take him shopping but that he will have to pay as normally I would do a big shop for him at the beginning of term to help him along but that is just out of the question both the big twins have been very good about it and acknowledge that it will do them good.

REally need to get my spreadsheet sorted before I do any spending so yes I will leave it until tomorrow perhaps the price will come down too :)

Don't worry about me KC a challenge is a challenge but boy this is a challenge :D

Actually just realised the weekend's cost will be offset somewhat by the fact that we will SORN OS's car when we get back as he can't drive for 6 months and as we only taxed it in December and we paid for it that will be 10 month's tax back for us. Have also pointed out that if he wants to drive in future he will have to cover all the costs.

Actually paid off some debt today :jas a statement has arrived so another £88.44 towards survival :T

Here's to survival! Though I confess, I've seen "sorn" around a lot lately, and I've no clue what it means :)

I'd forgotten about OH's age ... but I still think there must be something he can do, even if its mowing grass in the summer. I know there's an issue there (or there would be for me) about people who see me in one capacity suddenly seeing me in another, but when your back's to the wall, you do what you have to do.

As for travel costs, I don't know if he needs to use a car to go to funerals - I'm thinking there may be quite a bit of paraphenalia involved - but does he use the traveline.org.uk website for ways to travel? Its incredibly detailed about public transport, I used to use it all the time for mystery shopping.

I'll pm you now re. the mystery shops.

KC - SORN is statutory off road notification. It means you confirm that your car is off the road, and then you either don't have to get a road tax or can get a refund of the balance if you already have one.

DT - if the car is off road, is it possible to downgrade the car insurance, being a young driver it must be high, so if the car isn't being driven at all maybe they will do a partial refund.

We want to keep his insurance running so that he builds up his no claims bonus because he had a no fault claim last year there are only a few firms that don't take this into account when assessing premiums fortunately the firm he was insured with was one of these. I heard on the radio the other day that once someone has run into you, you are more likely to have an accident yourself so this is why they put the premium up seems strange to me he didn't do anything wrong and the other driver admitted liability but still some firms want to penalise him:(

He will of course have to review the situation when his insurance comes up for renewal which is April but that is a matter for him not us.

Dont know if this helps DT but my OH had his car off the road for a year with no insurance. When he put it back on the road some companies took into account no claims bonuses for up the previous two years. So it meant that he still had his full no claims when he insured earlier this year, he just needed a letter from his previous company stating when it was ended and the no claims details. We insured through Kwik Fit who were the cheapest. . Also I have had my insurance suspended whilst looking for a new car. If I dont renew next week then I will get refunded the difference. If I had cancelled last month then they were going to charge me a cancellation fee. They were good in pointing out that it wouldnt cost me anything if I put it on a suspend until I was sorted out.

OMG Stressed you cannot mention me in the same breath as Hypno she is a MSE Goddess before whom we all bow but thanks so much for the compliment but this kick up the posterior has made me realise that I have been playing at it before.

I have never set a proper budget :o despite knowing I should and then wonder why I have always run short usually being too ambitious paying off debt and then not having enough left until payday my excuse paydays every six months are not helpful :(.

Anyway today I have set a budget for 2011 and hopefully I have included everything so I know what we can spend and what we can't. I have also changed my phone/broadband package and ordered a new mobile sim to reduce costs there. I am in the process of getting a quote for life insurance to see whether there is any saving to be had there. I have had a look at my electricity account online and will be keeping an eye on it to see whether I can get them to reduce the DD. I have checked all DDs to make sure there is nothing slipping through without me knowing but all looks OK there. I have written everything down that we have spent since Jan 1st and thankfully so far we are in budget for this week which ends tomorrow so that is all to the good. I have cash in my purse which has to last for ever :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have also checked the car insurance renewal for my car that is due on the 10th and the renewal quote is a £100 less than any other quote I can find even as a new customer with the firm I am with which I just can't understand but I am not complaining and I have accepted the renewal having carefully checked that all the necessary bits are included:D

So all in all I could not have done much else today and once I have finished the life insurance application I will then turn to what things I can sell.

At least I am using my diary for MSE things for a change instead of random ramblings.

    Thanks for reading

Is OS car insured third party, fire and theft? If so, it could be down graded to F&T only for the six months. That way you keep the insurance running with the NCB building up.

On a lighter note.... When my Mum died the local Vicar was away, so we asked for the Vicar from the RAF camp (Dad was ex RAF) but he was on a course, so we were left with the final option - a retired Head Teacher who had taken orders. We were so relieved to have *someone* I can't tell you. Then he turned up to talk to us and find out a bit about Mum and he was Welsh. With Mum being a Scot there was a huge concern that she wouldn't approve. She hasn't come back to haunt us over it though! He did us proud and you would not have know that he had never even met her.

Anyway, it seems to me that Vicars will always be in demand for this sort of thing and it was the funeral directors persistence that enabled us to have her funeral 8 days after she died rather than the original estimate of 15 days.

Hope things are going well with the new Foster Child :D

    More hugs
