This website might help: http://www.freesat.co.uk/
I know that when we went to Freeview via Virgin Media for a while they told us what channels we would get when we asked. Not sure if Sky are as obliging0 -

Thanks FF I don't really want to speak to sky again it is not good for my blood pressure.
In fact I was searching on the site you suggested and it seems that I could buy a freesat set top hd box to use on one of our TVs which is hd ready and use it through the sky dish and then just use the other sky box on Mom's TV to watch free to view channels and avoid the need for an aerial at all but get the bonus of being to watch some hd channels although to be honest I am not bothered about hd just bought it to keep OS happy. The only problem I can forsee is that I can't see Dave on freesat and OH really likes Dave. Will have to investigate further and just broke the news to our foster child that channels will be limited taken it quite well considering

Nope you can't get Dave on Freesat but you can watch it for free on the PC via TVCatchup along with a heap of other channels.
I've been wanting to watch Create and Craft as the cardmaking girls rave about it but it's not included in my Virgin package and I can watch from that website for free.

Thanks for all the suggestions :jI realise this TV thing is a nightmare of options:eek:. I will have to investigate further. I will be having a look at the create and craft thing too thanks - especially as I have promised to make something handmade for a certain FF on FB :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Looking at the freesat as there are only 3 HD channels don't think it will be worth getting an hd box so now have to decide whether it is worth getting a box at all or whether we should just manage with the free to view channels.
Next question with the TVcatchup thing can I plug my laptop into the TV because although I would be happy to watch it on the laptop don't think OH would be keen - it would also mean restricted access to my laptop and I would have to try and teach OH how to use it as he doesn't do computers - oh dear what a can of worms I have opened up :rotfl::rotfl:
Oh well this budgeting stuff opens your eyes to new things
Right off to change a nappy and then look at tvcatchup thanks Moo

Off to change a nappy - there's a phrase I hope never to utter again!
Hope DS is better soon - there are 7 children in DD1's class off ill - both mine had it over Christmas too.
And I'm with you on the snow - I prefer it to rain anyday0 -
Yep, except when I'm actually trapped in the house, I prefer snow too
tv catchup! I used to have it, but I lost it, and couldn't remember the title eitherbrilliant find again, thanks moo2moo, that is *seriously* excellent.
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Default Dave as my dad calls it (always a topgear to watch!) is on freeview as they do not have sky.
Bet DH had a fab day at Autosport, we were there on Friday to have some business meetings and catch up with old friends.0 -
Pippa, I've just bought a free view box, tuned it several times, bought a booster and tuned it again - still can't get dave on it. Can't even get itv3
that tvcatchup is a pearl

Dave is supposed to be on freeview but we won't be having that as we don't have an aerial and it is not on freesat - actually I would be glad to see the back of Dave because I know all the Top Gear programmes off by heart but OH watches them endlessly:eek: still he was very patient with me when I went through various programme obsession phases - baby whisperer, biggest loser, various house programmes so I can't complain - the one series I would really like to have on again is George Clarkes' house renovation programme that I seriously love and he is quite good eye candy too and I do dream of employing him to do up my house because I like the way they turn out but need OH to win the premium bonds if that is ever to happen
