You've already made a start with doing your budget and checking your DD's you know the drill re selling things, have you used ebay before? Could you do meal planning to cut the grocery budget?
Have you done mystery shopping?
Is there any way your OH can up his income?
Do you have space for students or Lodgers ala Hypno?
Just a thought but the diet company you lost your weight with..could there be a possibility of you being a representative for them in your area, you would be a great advert for them or would that not interest you?
I'm not really coming up with anything you won't have already thought of sorry. Maybe read through Hypnos thread again for some tips because if she can do it so can you and at one time she was self employed and I don't think she was earning what she does now at that point (am I right Hypno?).
Good luck with all the number crunching.0 -
Hi
tried to post last night and it wouldn't let me, I know you don't really do Ebay, you've said before. But short term, that will give you some breathing space, maybe your OD could do that for you. Did you make any jewellry? Could that be sold?
Other than that, you know how to cut back, its just not nice long term. You can do it, you are so focussed and organised.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Sorry, just spotted this and it made me chuckle a bit. Reading your post on Christmas Eve DT, I don't think your OH considers himself to be in a 'growth industry' but not sure how the finances work.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Sorry to hear the figures aren't looking good DT. It's not fun when budgets are so tight, and no obvious solution.
Hope you find something that helps.0 -

This made me smile KM which is always a good thingit is was the question about finding room in the house - we are bursting at the seams with a new fostering placement arriving Monday and our regular monthly foster respite we are in fact already over capacity as far as our fostering registration is concerned as the new placement is a toddler and we are only supposed to take babies up to 12 months that can share our room but they are desperate so are willing to grant an exemption but it means shifting rooms when the respite placement is here and they would definitely not be impressed if we tried to squeeze a lodger in too:D my 95 year old mom lives with us perhaps I could ask her to share with a lodger :rotfl:
I have done mystery shopping but not recently because the return was not worth the hassle I would however go back to it now but as the new placement is going to be a full on need to supervise contact placement I doubt I will be able to fit much in especially not being able to take children with you on most jobs.
As to OH as Gill says he is not actually in a growth industry and in fact doesn't get paid anyway. The only way he can up his income is to take more funerals for which he does get paid but his fellow vicar has upset the local undertaker so even those are going elsewhere at the moment
Meal planning is definitely on the agenda.
Ebay selling is definitely on the agenda.
The diet company is a non starter the nearest clinic is 80 miles away and they are not likely to open one round here not affluent enough they are moving the former clinic to Wilmslow this month which is more their type of area or else yes I would love to advertise them but it is not like ww or slimming world where you could be a consultant you would have to be employed by them and work in the clinic.
Right off to tidy new foster placement is coming for a 2 hour introduction visit and then I have to sort a spreadsheet out and break the bad news to OH as to how little we have to spend each week. Have already spoken to the big twins to say they have to live within their means as there will be no extra top ups from the bank of Mom and Dad.
Hope you get some response with regard to your ongoing communication difficulty I would be interested to hear the outcome.

Hi DT
Sorry things are not going as well as they could.
I second KM in asking about your DH. I thought I read ages ago that he does not get paid for his church work - is that right?
Does your DH have a paid job also? If he doesn't is there any hobbies he could make money from?
Does your mother pay any rent for living with you?
I know you will come through this ((DT & family))

Yes EE you are right DH doesn't get paidexcept weddings and funerals and we don't have a pretty enough church to attract weddings as it is on what is considered to be a rough estate we do get lots of baptisms but he doesn't get paid for those
No DH does not have a paid job and his hobby is fast cars not exactly a money spinner:(
Yes my Mom does pay rent and is very generous but she lives on her pension so doesn't have loads to spare and I don't want to tell her too much about the present situation as she will become fixated on it and worry she has short term memory problems and tends to get stuck on one thing such as an expected appointment and will ask me about it constantly so I couldn't face this being the fixation it takes a lot of patience to answer the same question 50 times a day
Yes we will get through there is no other option.

Hi DT. I'm so sorry about the tightness of your situation. I presume Mr DT is cutting down on his fast car hobby? There must be other hobbies he has that would also make some money in some way, if he expanded his thinking a bit, surely? If not, then something else. He's not doing unpaid work in a full time sense, surely? I've no idea how it all works, sorry
With the mystery shopping, you might be surprised - one company I worked for last year had loads of email and phone assignments - the net pay is much better than the ones where you have to travel. If I were you, I'd definitely try to sign up - if you're interested, I'll pm you the name.
Have you checked out the Up Your Income board on here? I'm sure you have - read into it that I'm really concerned for you, and hoping that you can find a way to ease the situation really quickly.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi DT, it sounds like OH could do with getting friendly with the undertakers. I've a friend in London who does funerals, and he gets quite a few with being able to travel around to other parts of London rather than just local, I think it's mainly to crematoriums. Quite often local vicars etc are ill, on holiday etc., so not available. I'm not sure of the etiquette, but would he be happy with some low key marketing to funeral directors to say he has availability. Of course you'd have to work out travel costs etc to see where was a practical area to cover, unless they are willing to pay travel costs.0

Sorry the new year started on a downer, but in some respects better to know now and plan for it than start the business, book holidays etc.
There are some great ideas coming through, maybe DH could do the mystery shops or surveys, that way he can earn his bit towards his hobbies.0
