How easy is it to set up your own practise specialising in child law?One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
2015 - my Amazon Gift Certificate mini challenge - saving to buy small household electrical items.
Total £9.120 -
Fantastic, DT! That sounds really encouraging. Since I don't advise, I don't have any right to say I told you so, so thats all right
and your reasoning in today's post is impeccable
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
DT that is fantastic news - I look forward to hearing when you manage to arrange things forSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

I wouldn't want to do that ME for one thing it is just too expensive with insurance etc. and also it would mean that I was acting for children's parents and to be honest if I got a child returned home that was then harmed I would be gutted so I would rather act for the Local Authority which means being employed by them which is fine by me and there could be opportunities to go into other areas as well and as I have said before there are a lot of child care locum positions with local authorities but it would be really nice to get a permanent job near to home. But one step at a time and so far I could not have asked for things to go better except for the SRA who I will have to phone in the morning to see how long they are going to take over my application.
Of course all the bedtime reading I have been doing is now not required but still study is always useful and I have just got some books out of the attic that I bought for my VRQ so tonights reading is the Children's Act 1989 :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It was youareallreallyhelpingme (now known as ME)who suggested it as per the post below and I dismissed it saying I didn't like litigation and that it would be stressful so about face for me then
Thats fantastic news! Is there any additional legal work you could do where your knowledge of the fostering and adoption processses would come in useful?

That's wonderful news DT - it's amazing how everything falls into place when you are truly ready and the time is right
Sounds like you've found the perfect solution, I'm so happy for you!
So sorry that your precious GDD's anniversary is on Mother's DayI'll be thinking of you and your daughter.
My sister has been trying for a baby for a couple of years and finally conceived, then sadly miscarried at 10 weeks. She is devastated, as she will be 40 at Christmas and feels time is running out. Her due date was my birthday, so it will be a difficult day this year. So sad.0 -
So sorry to hear about your sister Macgirl the friend who is helping me miscarried at 11 weeks a month ago it is so sad and having struggled with conception myself I know how it feels. Let's hope that they will both have a happy ending soon.

I generally only lurk but the turn your thread has taken concerns me. I am a solicitor with many years experience. People on here seem to think that guarantees a great income. Nothing is further from the truth. Life is just as hard for us as anyone else. We work very hard for not much return. The child care world is very competitive - lots of people see local authority work as a safe option. It is nor. Cutbacks will decimate it. There will be lots of solicitors with good experience without jobs. I do not want to discourage you but you appear to have assumed that , because it suits you to return to the profession there will be a job for you ,ever though it is in an area you have no experience. I don't want you to be disappointed and I believe in second chances but the truth ? You are deluding yourself in thinking there is a future here unless you are very lucky. There are lots of people out there with very recent experience but no job. This is a harsh climate. Return to this world by all means but it wil not be easy !,0

I believe in giving true advice if you have the experience to give it and then its up to DT what to take from that advice what she wishes to however I think in this case you come across as very harsh and negative .
I wonder what you think the alternative to what DT is doing should be? Give up and not bother? DT has worked in the legal field and presumably spent years studying and earning that qualification and through experience knows the negatives all too well which is why it took a lot of soul searching before she decided to have a go at returning.
Yes all areas of our jobs/careers will probably be affected by all these cuts and times we are going through HOWEVER we cannot just give up and not bother trying unfortunately that is not an option for most of us!0 -
I don't want to be negative or harsh. I am impressed by ambition . I do think however a dose of reality is called for. I know what I am talking about . Double trouble could want to return as a conveyancing solicitor all she wants. The housing Market is dead . There are no jobs. Child dare is a busy area. Cutbacks will be protected because of the human rights act. On the other hand there are list of solicitors with good experience in this area. Legal aid will be cut back. Local authorities have to find cuts ( unless you all want to pay more council tax ) . Lots of people want o work for them. Just to say that you want to return to the profession late in life , oh and you have no experience but you think child care ( in a very limited sense ) would suit you , is to havevunrealistic expectations. Should I do what all those who know nothing about the legal world do and say - ' oh hon , well done , how marvellous '. Or is it better to tell it as I think it is , do better prove me wrong but at least see this might be a challenge .0
