Should I do what all those who know nothing about the legal world do and say - ' oh hon , well done , how marvellous '. Or is it better to tell it as I think it is , do better prove me wrong but at least see this might be a challenge .
We might not know the legal profession, but we know the person and DT deserves all the "well dones" we can give her.
DT, I hope I'm not putting words in your mouth, but I suspect you know it's going to be tough. At least you're trying though, and for that, I'm sorry Spaslet, but I do think she's bloody marvellous.0 -
Thank you for your posts spaslet I feel quite honoured that you have decided to unlurk and post twice.
I am not unrealistic I know the conveyancing market is dead hence the decision to leave it alone. I may not have legal experience in this area but I do have a lot of life skills that will be useful for whatever job I end up doing. Yes I could say poor me its too difficult and not try but as long as my husband and family support me in my decision that's all that matters and what do I have to lose in trying? I am just as entitled to try as anybody else I have put the work in over the years and just because I decided to put my family first in the past does not make me a bad lawyer. Yes I may have to be more creative in getting a job and may have to be more open to different possibilities than someone who has never taken a career break.
I don't have to prove anything to anyone least of all a stranger and I don't expect to be handed a job on a plate. I am grateful to the people on here for their support whether you think it is misguided or not but at the end of the day I am a big girl and I will make my own decisions.

Glad I could be of help prodding in the right direction x
Spaslet - how many childrens solicitors working for the local council have the actual experience of being a foster carer and knowing the adoption system from "the other side". I am not knocking you for coming on here and telling DT to not get her hopes up, but she has the right to try. Maybe you are a child solicitor at risk and that is making you think about "stopping" her from re-entering the profession?
Maybe it is just the way your posts are worded and that is we had all spoken face to face it would come across as a general "how the industry is" warning ((((inserts shruggy smiley)))))))One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!

Hi DT! As far as I remember, the thing that prompted your change of potential direction was your knowledge that the conveyancing work was dead, and that the work related to children was not - so, yep, reality based there.
As far as saying that you have useful "life skills" - I think you can go beyond that. Any mum worth her salt has all sorts of life skills, but you've been a fosterer for many years, and you're involved in the other side as well with your Panel work. And the orphanage, tho I know thats not in this country.
Just thinking in a Linked In sort of way - I suspect you could network across a wide variety of contacts to find your next few steps.
Spaslet - I just want to echo what the others have said in relation to your posts, while emphasizing I'm wishing you the best.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well I have been to the accountants this morning but having read the balance sheet in January there were no great surprises but good to have a chat with him and the shop manager to see how we anticipate things going in the future. I think the accountant was relieved that we had already made the appropriate decisions and that he didn't have to persuade us to take a sensible course of action we will be having another discussion in the Autumn.
Rang the SRA and it appears that as from last Friday I was restored to the roll and the official notification is on its way :j. Before any lurkers point this out - this was the expected result as it would be very unusual for an application to be turned down unless I had been guilty of serious misconduct in the past but it is an important practical and psychological point for me and one step ticked off on the journey back to work.
I rang the lady at the legal department but she was out a very nice lady said she would get her to ring me so I am awaiting the call.
Other than that I have sorted out my Sunday School lesson for next week including the craft so things looking good:D
The man is here to start working on the fence and OH is reassembling the pergola and the sun is shining what more could oyu ask for?

I know what you mean about the psychological point being admitted back on the roll - when I had my couple of years away from my industry, I had to be readmitted, and again, it was a very important thing for me.

I have had the phone call and it went well there is a meeting in the legal department tomorrow and my request will be brought up with the relevant people so I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and await another call.

Sounds like you bumping in to your friend this weekend was meant to be - the universe is obviously listening to you!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: at the word re-admitted - it sounds like some sort of incarceration!:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Keeping my fingers crossed for you DT - can only echo what others have said, it is being realistic that has prompted this decision to look at becoming a solicitor again, and nothing is ever easy.
Getting back on the roll is a big psychological boost, you'll probably dance around when you get the official notification.

Sound like yesterday was a good day :j.
We got a bit of sushine washing the car and discussing the garden. We have the widest conifers i have ever seen in my life . A neighbour who is a gardener by trade was going to cut them down by half and then tidy the sides up later in the year - but we hate them. They have ruined the grass and constantly grow like crazy. So as Bob would say - we have a cunning plan. We know that somewhere in the good 5-6ft width are concrete posts so we are getting rid of them and then for now going to use chicken wire to keep the dogs in, until such time as we can afford a proper 6ft fence. We can block the only entrance by moving a tall plastic shed and next doors conifers hide the rest so will still be secure.
If we could get rid of all the conifers our garden would be huge!
Hope you get the call. xOne small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
