    How ridiculous!

I have just received the paperwork for the joint account and instead of putting in my name and my wife's (the info I gave) they have joint accounts for myself twice!

Just been online and opened another esaver account this time in my name only.

I shall cancel the duff one as above.

Sorry if I am boring anyone, I know it's probably mundane but I felt my info might help anyone else who applied for a joint account.
From what I can tell if you open a std account they just do it quickly, if you apply jointly you have to sign the form first. Which is understandable.

I phoned Natwest and they could see the problem and cancelled my application as I suggested.

After my earlier problems I am happy to report that the account I applied for Wed pm is now open and working. :)

  • I opened one of these accounts for my mother and she has just received her first letter from the bank. There is nothing in the letter to say that the rate on the account is 2.85%, the interest rate leaflet enclosed just states that the interest rate from 2009 is 1%. So is she getting 2.85% No one from Natwest around today
    Thanks for any help

The online terms said you would get the rate so long as it was displayed on the website at the time of online application, even if withdrawn later.

But if you take too long over the paperwork, they'll cancel the application.

  • does everyone automatically get an account opening confirmation letter? - i opened my account online on thursday 18th and have not received anything through the post though the account showed in online banking pretty swiftly, i opened one of these accounts a few years ago and got paperwork, info leaflets and r85 form from them a few days later.

i ask in case there's a chance our postman has mistakenly delivered it to one of my nosy neighbours and have got my bank details.

I haven't received anything in the post, and hope I won't. It's an e-saver, so everything about it should be 'e'.
  • The account I applied for never showed up on my online banking and I didn't get a letter. I called NatWest and as it is an online account they couldn't do anything apart from suggest I apply again. So I did.

Can't say I'm very impressed with this impossibility of following the account opening procedure.
