nilrem was asking about the gross rate.
They should have said that the variable rate (including a fixed bonus of 1.85% pa until 14/2/2012) was 2.85% pa gross until 14/2/2012 and 1% pa gross after 15/2/2012. I think most people would have understood that and that describes what is happening.
Now that makes sense and I hope that is the true picture.
I found the letter most confusing especially considering Nat-west's past record on quoting rates!
From their letter I was wondering where to move the money to, now at least I have a little more time before finding a new home for the cash.
I wager that their are quite a few people who don't read this forum who are looking at this letter feeling confused by it's contents!0 -
I too have received the letter extending my bonus to 14 the February but have already moved most of my money elsewhere
Has anyone managed to close the account by phone, or is the only way to write to the Freepost address?
Is anyone keeping the account open in the hope of a better rate in the near future? I'm inclined to close mine so I have one fewer set of security details to memorisebut don't want to miss out. I don't have any other accounts with Natwest/RBS.

I closed mine in branch. It took a while and closing balance was paid by cheque in the post so don't close the account while it still holds a significant balance.0

Thanks for the quick reply. Can't easily get to a branch but cheque in the post isn't problem - less than £10 left in it :rotfl:0 -
Ok now I am confused. I've had an E saver account since sept 2010, first bonus earned oct 2010. Got the extra 12 months bonus letter a month ago.
For the first year, the bonus interest was always more than the basic (as expected), however the oct 2011 basic interest is higher than the bonus interest. Anyone else noticed this with their account?_____________________________________________Mortgage 1 £80k paid off july 2014Mortgage 2 £213k paid off May 20210 -
My bonus is still about double the amount of the interest Cath x0
