Wee quick catch up. I am afraid I have stumbled on the 100 day challenge, however only on the weekend. I have been holding strong during the week. Perhaps I would be better off setting myself a target and aiming towards that... I had Big Ben in my head last night, as DH is now leaving for work at 6.30am and not getting home until 8.45pm, and the kids in bed has always been a trigger for that "phew and glass of wine" moment.

Hope everyone is bearing up. I always feel this season change bit throws a bit of a curve ball - same in March for me.

You have a target. Keep it. If you fall a little short it is still a grand effort. :T

I used to change my goals to suit my drinking. That's what alcoholics do. My 'normal' friends change their drinking to suit their goals.

    Thanks jo!

When I say posh I mean..a place where you can stay for as long as you like - as long as you can afford the fees! What NHS facility provedes that? Not any that I know of. I just feel that, if I had an enforced period of a few weeks off the drink in the right environment, it would really help me to stop....Maybe I'm deluding myself.

    I dunno...

They will not enforce it. Many people check themselves out of rehabs so they can go out drinking/using. The only way that a residential rehab unit is enforced if you are either sectioned or doing it from prison. Otherwise you are free to go.

The fact that you want to stop drinking is a good sign, though in my experience, one has to keep wanting to stay sober to achieve sobriety.
Many can go a few weeks without a drink, not as many can go a few months, and fewer still can go a few years.
I know many people who went to rehab, and they had a great start to being AF. I also know many that came out of rehab and drank again soon after, as they thought that rehab would fix them for life.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

though in my experience, one has to keep wanting to stay sober to achieve sobriety.

I guess that is the crux of it. I didn't want to stop drinking, I would still like to drink now, however being sober is good for me and I like it more than I do drinking. Drinking has the good bits and the bad bits. Sober is a much more steady way to live for me.

It's a shame you can't be sober and have a drink too.I know it sounds obvious but you really can't have one with the other.

Hope that makes some sort of sense it does to me!

  • Hi guys. Just thought id share with you all, the other day, I kind of had an
epiphany and decided to give up the booze completely. After admitting it to myself that I indeed have a problem, I dispensed with every drop of booze in the house and its now been 3 days alcohol free, and having consumed a minimum of 100 units a week for approx 4 years, that is a big change for me. I can honestly say I feel great, I have had the best night's sleep in years and feel genuinely more alert and awake, it's like the fog has lifted! The thing is, I never knew there was any fog there until I stopped drinking. It hasn't affected my life in any way really until now, but recently I have been having so many bugs, and stomach problems and I had a day sick the other day as I felt so awful that morning. I have spoken to my line manager at work and she has offered me her unconditional suppport, and without anyone else at work knowing my problem, loads of people said how great I looked yesterday, so goodness knows how bad I must have looked before!!

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
