    Alcoholism is very democratic. Black/White. Men/Women. Young/Old. Rich/Poor.
The few alcoholics who manage to stop killing themselves with booze all have one thing in common. They really want to stop drinking, and will do anything to stop. If you would do ANYTHING to stop, then you have a chance. Good luck.

PS - I am naturally suspicious of these Europe-wide lotteries. Have you received the money yet?

Graeme - I was living in the country at the time and it is legit. ;P I do have the money, yes. Well - it's in my bank - which means not an awful lot to me yet...

But yes - no amount of money will solve alcoholism or drink problems....

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it very much.

Congrats on your win alchera, I can see your predicament and I know it's in bad taste, but you could send some over here if you like ;)

Good luck in your rehab, I don't think it matters whether it's posh or not, just like I said to Charlotte this morning, I think it's all about the frame of mind.

    Good luck :) xx

    Thanks jo!

When I say posh I mean..a place where you can stay for as long as you like - as long as you can afford the fees! What NHS facility provedes that? Not any that I know of. I just feel that, if I had an enforced period of a few weeks off the drink in the right environment, it would really help me to stop....Maybe I'm deluding myself.

    I dunno...

Yes - you absolutely could, and that is a lovely thought, but be good to yourself first, and try to work through your own issues. Then you will be able to do good for others with a measured approach. Work on you first - then your help elsewhere will be the most effective it can be.

    Good luck.

Yes! This is very true! I have always been inclined to help others....but, right now I am probably not really best able to do so...Never thought of it like that... Thank you so much for pointing this out. :T
  • MOB don't give up - I'm sure whatever you do will be best for you. If you think about it - whatever you get out of 100 is brilliant!

Thanks - I am just trying hard to be kind to myself - feeling a bit low, and those are really the hardest moments. I just have to keep reminding myself how much better I feel - and I do.

  • Thank you for the lemsip maman, very much appreciated! :)

Am drinking today. Already. Naughty me, but it's happening so I will acknowledge that.

I thought I had better cook a proper dinner for myself tonight, as I've not been eating properly and have been living off tins of cold beans and crispbreads because of lack of money and because I've no-one to eat with now, as the ex and I don't do anything together any more.

So it's just me and it's hard to get motivated with cooking a hot meal for one. It's ironic really, as I love cooking so much. I've just lost interest in it I think.

So I am doin a little pork roast with a baked potato and veg and cauli-cheese tonight. I (stupidly) said to ex, why doesn't she have some too if she is in tonight, as there will be too much for me. So she is haivng dinner with me tonight and now I feel all funny and horrid about it, because we are not together anymore, so it doesnt actually mean anything, she is just eating the food I prepared because its there. Not because she wants to eat with me. That makes me feel like carp, but I did bring it on myself by offering!

    Hugs

  • Hi all,

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has offered advice about detox and claiming ESA - two separate questions, so thank you! :)

I have submitted a claim for ESA after being given a sick note for 4 weeks by the doc...This will give me a bit of breathing space while I go through a med assisted detox next month :j I am sooooo pleased I don't have to go into the Job Centre, at least for a long while and hopefully never again if I, rather 'when', get myself sorted. Anyone with exp of job centres (this is my first and hopefully last!) will know that they are staffed by Little Hitlers and Jobsworths who are tempermentally unable to 'help' in any way. Anyway RANT over! Thanks for the link to the other post about ESA and the poor girl that sort of sounds like me (uni educated, said to be bright and personable....but, sadly, gripped by this horrible 'disease' of acoholism.

The annoying thing is until the detox I 'cannot' stop drinking but must drink my alcohol every day as I have severe withdrawals (shaking, more pronounced muscle spasms, sweats, visual and auditory hallucinations, it is awful and incredibly scary) I will beat this, however, I MUST beat this! Charlotte x
