What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

My questions: Has anyone here had a medically assisted detox and what was it like and was it successful?

Hello Charlotte and welcome to the thread :)

I have had a home detox, it involved being at home for 2 weeks, going to my local drug and alcohol service every morning to be breathalised (sp?) then given a script for that day's librium. I felt spaced out on the pills but it was nothing to feel frightened of. I couldn't feel much emotion, couldn't really laugh or cry but felt totally balanced. I didn't get cravings for alcohol at all.

The problem for me was that I wasn't ready for this detox, I had only just realised myself that I had a drink problem and the detox was sort of forced on me. I managed to stay sober for a further 2 weeks but then relapsed.

You have nothing at all to worry about, but please discuss with your keyworker about a relapse plan and how you will feel when the librium stops and you get your normal emotions back.

Please keep posting, I really really hope this works for you xxx

  • Morning all, think those of you who said you normally sleep less well initially were right after all. At least once I'd got some sleep under my belt the previous two nights.

Jo, hugs, hope things get easier soon. And you too Budgie.

Snap Maman, one more tonight, n'est ce pas?

Have a good day everyone, there is one of my fave brands of wine in the fridge but I will be strong again tonight. With the help of Pen and Shaggy's challenges I can do it. (Do I sound convinced?!)
