    Good morning all!

    15 for me please Shaggy!

I'm an excited Piggy here today! Mum rang last night to ask if we (me OH, Piglet and the two stepkids) would like to go on holiday with them to Cornwall in August!:jThey are booking a big farmhouse with plenty of room for all of us. I'm over the moon as we haven't had a weeks holiday since our honeymoon 7 years ago!!

So a big savings drive is on to save our spending money. Last night I was so happy my initial reaction was "Must celebrate with a bottle of wine!!" but then I though again and put £5 in the savings pot instead!! If I cut my drinking drastically, all that money can go in savings. Got to be worth a go!:T

That's great news MissP, what lovely parents you have. So [STRIKE]if[/STRIKE] when you save calories and cash by being AF, you'll have loads of spending money and a fabulous bikini figure for your holiday.;):T

  • Hello everyone,

May I also join you guys. I am a long time lurker, first time poster and sorry if this is a bit of a long post, but maybe I need to get this off my chest and down on paper.

I have been drinking heavily now for quite a few years, so have been very very silly with regards my health (at least 2 bottles of whiskey, 1 bottle of vodka and few glasses of wine/beer per week (90+ units, 4,662+ calories per week).

I have been visiting my doctor regarding a medical condition which has had me on antibiotics and so this has lead to a blood test to identify what the problem could be. The Blood test results have shown Liver problem, so I have had to go for another blood test for more detailed analysis and doctor has booked me in for a liver function test. I will not get results of 2nd Blood Test until next week and have not received appointment for liver function test yet. Due to the heavy drinking I have gained weight and doctor said this could be relevant to the liver results (fatty liver, let’s hope that is what it is). You know what, I could not even admit to the doctor, the extent of my drinking, I made out I have a couple of drinks every night, (what a fool/coward I am, but this has really rang home to me in my head).

For the last two weeks I have cut out the 3 bottles of spirits (apart from one slip up), and have had 2 pints of lager on Friday and Sat and 1 glass of lager (half can) week nights, as relaxant before going to bed, but I need to cut this out completely, if it not already done too much damage.

I can really relate to what Maggiesoop has said about the habit, and I think my drinking is three things, the habit, I would get in from work and have whiskey and diet coke, and before I know it I’ve done half a bottle before departing for bed, second is loneliness, I live on my own during the week, the third part is that during a few traumatic times in my life I have used this as a way of blocking out the pain of certain events and as a way of shutting off to get some sleep. I know I can’t do this anymore, I know that I cannot have a bottle of whiskey/vodka in the house or I will drink it.

I need a complete lifestyle change, I need to lose weight, do exercise, stop smoking and stop drinking completely. What a mountain to climb.

I have, since visiting the doctor, cut my Alcohol units per week to probably about 15, have swapped food choices for lower calorie options. I do actually feel better for the cutting down, but these tests are going round and round in my head. I am meeting friend tonight, so that will be another obstacle, as I would normally share bottle of wine, but can’t do that now.

I am partly a secret drinker and no one knows as to what extent I have been drinking, so I am trying to deal with this on my own as it is such an embarrassment, I have to go now as this is making me a bit teary.

I will pop back later to say hello again.

    Sorry for the woffle.

    Rossie
  • You know what, I could not even admit to the doctor, the extent of my drinking,

As I constantly lied to health professionals over a number of years about the extent of my drinking, I would recommend total honesty.

    Good luck.

Hi Rossie Cheeks and welcome to the board. I only joined this week after finally admitting and realising just how much I drink. Trust me, I aint far behind you!

Have to pop out in a mo, but just wanted to say we are all here to help, and as hard as we know this will be, we can all only try.

    Always here for you honey.

:wave:welcome rossiecheeks. You've made a start and are no longer drinking in secret because you've told all of us!!

You seem to have made a good start on cutting-down already so:T
We're all different in our approach and I'm definitely a cutter-down (rather than a giver-up) as I want to carry on enjoying a social drink. What I would suggest is that you stick with your reduced level but do try to have some completely AF days too. Once you get the feel of those (and it can be very hard with no 'treat' to look forward to at the end of the day), then you can build on it. Try finding something to do to stop the loneliness/boredom otherwise you'll just be thinking about booze all the time. You should lose some weight automatically provided you don't swap the booze for chocolate!:rotfl:
In my experience, you need to cut down the booze first and then think seriously about a weight loss programme.

    Good Luck!
