Good morning all
Good to hear so many people doing so well!:T
Mackeroo and Maman - fantastic weight losses!!!:T
Shaggy - yes, its very odd how a bit of sunshine immediately brings up ideas of wine in my head. Yesterday I quite simply could have killed to sit in the garden with a glass. OH was completely right however, as by the time he got home it was getting chilly and I wouldn't have sat outside anyway!!:rotfl:Oh, and 16 for me please, ta muchly!
Downhill to the weekend now!:j On Saturday am taking my Mum to the NEC for the hobby / stitchcraft show. I must not spend money though (which is going to be very hard!!)

Oh that is me too! Before I kept a alcohol diary I thought my units increased "only" around Nov/Dec. But last summer I realised I was bad in June/July & August too. Sitting in the sun with a drink is my downfall.
I succumb to the nice weather too girls.
Heres to hello sunshine and soda's, goodbye to hungover summers :-)
PS - AFD 4 for me :-)0 -

enjoy the sunshine!
:hello:Hello Darwins_mum!
Yes, been a couple of years ago and loved it. I'm trying to do home-made presents for christmas this year so am hoping for some inspiration! I love the shows at the NEC - also going to the cake one in November and possibly gardeners world live in June. Ah, good idea on not taking cards!!!:rotfl:

Didn't drink last night for the first time this week
bringing me to 12 AFDs. Went to the gym then tackled a huge pile of ironing instead, and by the time I'd finished that, it was far too late to think about having a drink. Well done Mackeroo and Maman on losing all that weight. I need to loose the 2 stone I've put on since giving up smoking

Morning everyone
Thank you again for such wonderful support you are already giving me. I am feeling much better about things.
I am having a long weekend, so will be off tomorrow and Monday so that will be nice if the weather is like this. I'm going to dust of Davina McColl and give that a go tomorrow morning and may get the bike out at weekend. I do love this time of year.
I will be spending the weekend with my partner, I know there is an unopened bottle of whiskey left over from Christmas so don't know if I should tell him to get rid of it (he will think it strange though). I know that if I have one it never ends at one so I need to abstein from it completely.
I am feeling much better already with the cut down and not drinking the spirits, and will aim for AF nights next week, but will only have a couple of lagers at weekend.
Darwins_mum I can so relate to what you say about stressful situation and the smoking and drinking.
catch you later everyone

I could not even admit to the doctor, the extent of my drinking, I made out I have a couple of drinks every night, (what a fool/coward I am, but this has really rang home to me in my head).
Welcome Rossie. First of all, you are not a fool/coward. You are taking positive action over drinking. A fool/coward would ignore the problem hoping it would fix itself.
Doctors know that many people lie about the amount they drink, I know I did. Be honest with your doctor, you've nothing to lose and they will have met plenty of people drinking 100+ units a week.
If you can get down to 15 units a week on a regular basis that's good. I could never do this despite many attempts. I'd set myself a goal of x units per week but when I couldn't do this I changed my goal so all that happened was that my goals were adjusted to fit in around my drinking. Not everyone is like this, many people can set a target and stick to it.0 -

Hi Cardboard Chewer, thanks for the advise, if I tell the doctor how much I drink will this go down on my medical records. The reason that I ask, is that I am shortly being made redundant from my job, so when I look for a new job and they seek medical history/notes, will this have to be divulged, as I feel this would put job offers in jeopardy, or am I being silly.
PS Lowering the unit levels has to be a really conscious thing for me, the head does say go on have a drink, one will be nice, but I have to push it away. I can have the half a lager when I am going to bed and that seems to be okay for me as I'm going to go to sleep, but if I opened a bottle of wine when I got in from work I know I could easily demolish the bottle. Last night when I met my friend I wasn't going to drink, but could not manage that, so had white wine, but, whereas I would normally drink few large glasses I had half glasses and mixed with sparkling water, so at least that reduced the amount of intake (prob 1 large instead of 2 LOL). I just hope that I can keep up the regime, the weekend will be a tester, and I just need to try and keep busy and whisper positive notes in ones head LOL.
Thanks again for your lovely words, so very much appreciated.0 -
Hello chaps and chappesses
Am on 13/20 AFDs. Low scorage due to a boozy holiday and not saying no to glasses of wine with dinner that I didn't need or even want. That means I need to clock up 7/8 nights AF to make my target. Going to be touch and go but will give it a good go. Should get there or thereabouts.
Nice to see some new faces on here. Seems a bit odd saying that in a way, but you know what I mean. Brings new perspectives and experiences to old lags like me
ETA: Hope it's OK to post this article from today's Guardian: Playing drunk. I've never been convinced by the 'in vino veritas' argument. Certainly for me, am far more likely to say ridiculous untrue things when drunk than when sober.

Hi Rossie, I'm no legal expert but I think you have to give your consent before someone such as an employer can access your medical records under the Data Protection Act. However not giving your consent might mean an employer not offering you the job. Do you work in an industry where medical record checks are standard practice?0
