Hi I've not been on the thread for a while because I've had flu...I thought I felt a bit under the weather and going to bed really early and not drinking wasn't making me feel any better and had aching limbs in London at the weekend which i put down to loads of walking even though I'm really quite fit. No it was the flu and today is the first day i've been able to raise my head from the pillow. even the thought of drinking makes me want to retch so 12 afd's for me now please. Hopefully i'm on the mend now as my temperature has gone down but can't face the thought of drinking! some really good posts on here in my absence-I really feel for you Mrs rainman-the situation sounds quite serious particularly with your little bean on the way-you really need to decide what you want to do now as elantan is right-if he has an alcohol addiction just because the baby arrives doesn't mean he will stop. Rossie cheeks-welcome to the thread and good luck for your health checks. I hope i feel a bit better tomorrow!

Hi All. I've been lurking for a few weeks and think it might be good for me to join you to hopefully get a bit of support. I'll try to make it brief...................I've never been a big drinker(not at all now) but Mr R. is. We've been together 4 1/2 years and i'm tired of hearing the empty promises to stop. An average week would be:
Monday - Friday; Finish work at 4. Stop of at Asda and buy 3 bottles of wine for £10 OR a 6 pack of Bud (depending on if he's on call)
Saturday & Sunday; Be up and dressed by about 11am. Walk down to Asda and pick up the 3 for £10 and an extra bottle of Red.

I can't have a normal conversation with him as it either turns into an arguement or he can't concentrate for long enough. I can't tell him anything important as he forgets, we don't go out socially as he shows me up. It's affecting my life but I can't seem to make him see that.

I know I can't force him to change, he has to want to stop. But i'm 23 weeks pregnant. I can't keep on cleaning the kitchen floor at 1am cos he thought he was in the bathroom (last week!), or being woken up when he's wandering around, again looking for the bathroom (last night). I'm tired!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll try to keep a diary of what he actually drinks. And if anyone has any tips I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to nag him all the time, but it feels like that is all I do!!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!

I went through the above with my dad...........and we never went out anywhere as he was always too p'ed and would also show me up.

I can remember that I used to try to clean up after him (I was only very young at this time - about 5) My mum worked nights and I didn't want her to know what he'd done :o

Your post sounded familiar and I thought 'Oh yeah, I read that on another board.' but the pregnancy weeks didn't seem right. Then I checked and it wasn't you who'd posted............could have been though

I'm really sorry, but I just cannot imagine that when littlun is born that he will be able to just stop - even if he wants to.

He really does sound like he needs medical help. I hope he seeks it.

I am sorry that at what should be such a truly exciting time in your life you have to contend with this.

I would LOVE some wine this evening, but I'm not letting myself have any.... :)

Good for you SOS. You're absolutely right about the lard. As I get older it seems to go on easier and come off harder.:( I'm amazed how much better I feel having shifted weight that I've been accumulating for 10 years! Not just physically but in terms of how I feel about myself. Booze was a big part of it, all those empty calories.

I'm having an AF night too and I'm planning one tomorrow. I just wanted to make that public because I'm trying to convince myself I should do it. I've got two things on next week that will mean I won't have my usual Mon-Thurs AF week so I want to go easy on Friday and Saturday in preparation/anticipation.

Why oh why did I finish the last of the wine tonight!! Chucked it back in 2 minutes waiting for baked potato to finish in microwave!!!! I could have had another AF night but no, I saw it in the fridge and thought it's only equivalent to one glass so why not, you've had a long day, polish it off girl. I'm soooooo annoyed with myself.

In time, assuming you don't want to give up altogether, you'll be able to have the odd glass whenever without worrying. The problem is that just now we don't trust ourselves to stop at one glass so the discipline of AF days is helping break that habit.

I know you feel you've 'wasted' an AF night for a drink you didn't savour or enjoy. We've all been there. The others are right, move on, be kind to yourself maggie. You did stop at a glass.

    11AF for me please Shaggy

and do congratulate yourself on your own achievements Shaggy.:T

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I can't have wine in my flat - if it's there I drink it! If it's not there it doesn't bother me and I'm happy with hot chocolate.
