  • Hi, like many others I have been having problems with fast 4 lately.
I dont know if its just coincidence but when I have been unable to connect on the pay monthly plan, I connect to the fast4 payg and so far it connects straight away. I stay connected for a minute (dont know if that makes a difference) and then disconnect and hey presto the pay monthly then seems to connect. As I say it could be coincidence. let me know if it works for you.
still get the page unobtainable problem from time to time though.

    Hi
I signed up at the sane time as I took out the monthly subscription but at that time I had another payg as well that I could use in emergencies. If you havent got a payg and still cant get on with fast 4, I guess you coukd pick up a free installation cd for one of the other payg companies and use that. By the way I have had problems before with fast 4 when they cancelled my account for over using it. They said I had connected straight away after the 2 hour cut off and I should have waited for a few minutes first but the guy couldnt tell me how long 'a few minutes' was.I had to sign up again the but had to pay an extra pound on top of my original special offer price. (I dont half babble on dont I)
    hope this helps
  • I always re-connect immediately when the two hours is up so I now wait with baited breath to be disconnected!

I changed to Fast4Net Dial Up in March this year and the only problems I had until recently is that they take the monthly payment too early (one time leading to me being disconnected).

The last month or so the connections have been a nightmare, especially at the weekends. I originally thought it was my PC and made the mistake of calling their Technical Department. Don't ever bother to ring this AT 50p A MINUTE as it's a total waste of time. It sounds like a call centre outside the UK and the operators I have spoken to don't seem to have a great understanding of English.

Another moan is that the Server Status is never kept up to date (which originally lead me to believe that is WAS my PC that had the problem).

I know they are extremely cheap but I am seriously considering changing to another provider in the near future as at the moment it's driving me doolally!!!

This is quite common for Fast4 users, I think. As far as I recall, last year, I was charged 13 times for 12 months. Made a phone call to them and get refund.

Again, over the last 3 months and 2 weeks, they took my money 5 times, including dial-up service and their freetalk phone service charges.

This made me crazy and I decided to go through all the bills carefully. I then realised that they not only overcharged me on internet service, but also on phone calls as well.

All sepecial numbers were charged more than the price stated by relevant service providers. For example, 0844xxx advertised at 10ppm would appear on my bill at 10+ppm. Even Fast4 technical support number which they said on their website of 50ppm was also overcharged.

Things were not stopped there. The total amount I had to pay each month for my phone calls was the overpriced one above, PLUS an amount, according to my calculation, equals to 17.5% thereof. I supposed they deemed VAT for this sum. If it's true, then, Freetalk users have to pay TOO MUCH for non-freetalk phone calls, while their website says nothing about their surchages in whatsoever form.

I had filed two separate mesages (via member panel) on internet and phone charges.

They answered on the former one, and said they will skip charging me for one month, as I was deemed paid already. So it's fine for me.

On the latter, they said they would investigate. Few weeks lapsed already and I still got no further responce from them. However, they decided not to take money that they intended to take from me for my August phone calls. Not sure about Sep.

Will keep posted when I have more info.

    Cheers,

Must get back to say, if you are overcharged and you don't call, you never get your money back. Pretty sure on it, at least in my case.

BTW, here's what they explain to me:
    Hi xxxxxx,

Thank you for your message, we apologise about the late reply.

Payment is normally taken every thirty days - this is to ensure that customer's who sign up for an account on the 31st of a month are billed correctly and not every other month. This can mean that the payment date moves forward by one day every other month but due to February having 28 days, billing is often moved forward to the original date.

I honestly can't suggest why your payment has been taken early; looking at the billing records for your account, I can see that this payment has occurred earlier than it should have.

I have reset your payment date to the 02/11/2006 to put your billing back on track; we will also monitor your payment date over the next few months to ensure this does not reoccur. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Kind Regards,
    Martin

I've only made one payment - it was due on the 25th and they took it on the 28th! But, I must watch out, because the explanation is ludricous. They should simply take the money on the same date each month. Anyone registering on the last day of the month makes a payment on the last day of every month. All this moving one day forward each month is rubbish and bad commercially, as they could lose customers.

Hello, well yes they did have a problem with dial up last weekend, and yes I have had all the same messages as you, and thought it was my computer.
I eventually got back on on Monday morning so e mailed them on the members section, under contact, then enquiries. They have been very helpful indeed.
I have like many been dilly dallying should I go broadband, and at £4.99 a month dial up, super value. They have also taken money from me at the wrong time, I checked it all very carefully with my credit card statement and they did two in one month, told them, and they skipped September and have just taken it today, third Oct, which is correct.

I also decided to go for it and go broadband with them, this is what I have got, been with them since January -

Free modem, but £4.99 postage and packing!!!!

Ten pounds off my BT connection, this is because they had made me an offer some time ago and I did not take it up.

They have refunded my £4.99 this month, which of course unfortunately had gone out today, but charged me for broadband from today, but I wont get it for at least a week!!

The first month broadband is £9.98, then it will be £11.99 per month from then on, unlimited.

I have had to take this for one year, however, I did say if they dare to put it up I will be very cross, they told me I would have the right to cancel the contract, but they would not be likely to put it up???!!!!

As this all happened today, maybe it will help someone, by the way, although I am Fast 4, the e mail came in from https://www.v21.co.uk who must be a subsidiary of theirs!!! This has confused me a bit, and their customer support number is slightly different.

    Regards oap
