I have just received a letter, from HSBC, informing me that following reipt of a Bankruptcy Order my account with them has been frozen.
Nothing unexpected in that, but the letter goes on to say: 'We are obliged yo serve demand on you for the full amount of your indebtedness and this is attached. No further action is required by you in relation to this demand.'
    The attached demand states:
    'FINAL DEMAND'
'Despite our previous communications concerning your debt, we have to date received no satisfactory response.
We now DEMAND immediate repayment of £XXXX.
Interest will be added on the same basis as presently applies.
YOU HAVE SEVEN DAYS TO REPAY IN FULL or let us have satisfactory proposal for repayment by instalments or otherwise. If immediate payment in full cannot be made then the attached Statement of Means form must be completed and returned.
ACTION will be taken against you through DEBT COLLECTORS or SOLICITORS if you fail to comply with this demand. You may also be taken to COURT.
As a DEFAULTING CREDITOR, details of your default including your name and address may be given to the CREDIT REFERENCE AGENCIES named below if we have not received a satisfactory response from you within 28 days.
If details of your default are given to Credit Reference Agencies, this may make it more difficult for you to obtain credit elsewhere in future.'

Other than being a particularly nasty and unwarranted letter (HSBC were fully aware of my situation), could anyone advise me if I am to expect similar letters from my other creditors?
If so, and considering that the covering letter tells me that I need take no action, what is the point of such letters?

    Thanks for your views.

here is people who i can empathise with. I started my own thread about sequestration........ (which rog2 said he can possibly help me with) found its harder to spell than bankruptcy (obviously they are trying to con us out of this in scotland) and i thought i'd join this one too as I have had my head in the sand for a while and now finally owning up to my problems and my 'lightbulb moment' happened.

Hello people my name is fuzzyheid and i have money problems.........

I am trying to get this sorted and this may mean i can sleep easier and now have fights over every bl**dy thing concerning money. Today (yesterday now because of the time) it was because i wanted to buy the sunday times and that was a waste of monet. my explanation.......... i can read it allllll week more than enough reading in there!

Ah .. I see.. I have problems spelling too...

So how are you.. Your up late on a sunday night ?
  • Going to the cab in the morning/afternoon - whenever they can fit me in. I've checked re-arranged and checked again the amounts owing (they keep changing as i for a fact do not know exactly how much owed).

They also wanted me to get the addresses for creditors. Is that the main head offices for them or my own branches?

i'm scared to go and admit this and im so anxious i cannot sleep!

Hi fuzzyh - pleased to see that you made it to here - you will find a lot of useful help and advice as sequestration is very similar to the English bankruptcy procedure. You can also try the following link, to get an idea of the whole process:
Hope this helps and keep posting.

well, wednesday is B Day... court time 1.30... and to say I'm a little nervous is an understatement

in fact, I am so panic-ed about everything and all the stuff br related and not that I need to do before then that I have spent a morning getting nothing done at all, can't even bring myself to finish the online br forms yet

so, a question.... I have just successfully and with extreme ease opened a CoOp Cashminder account, and received my card and account number etc inside a week (4 days I think!)

should I now, bearing in mind my brd, write requesting my Incapacity Benefit, DLA and Income Prorection Policy payments are made into that account or leave them with my Lloyds current account for now?

next IB payment due next tues (ie a week away), DLA not til mid Dec and ditto IPP.

as you can appreciate, I don't want any money unnecessarily getting caught up in that account.. am off to empty both my current accounts to max o/d tomorrow!

    thanks guys
