  • Hello,

Had a few problems with benifits which dispite phone calls to relavent departments were still paid into bank accounts now under the OR. Due to the overdraft already on the account befor BR the bank will not release the funds.

Just wanted to remined all thinking of going down the BR route thet you can request all benifits to be paid by Giro cheque not auto bank payments befor you go bankrupt, and also to point out my biggest mistake

CHILD BENIFIT WILL ONLY CHANGE PAYMENTS TO A GIRO CHEQUE IF THEY HAVE RECIEVED A POSTED LETTER REQUESTING THE PAYMENT METHOD TO BE CHANGED

PLEASE leave plenty of time ( pref two weeks) for the changes to be implimented (as it takes a minimum of 5 working days after the reciept of a letter for it to be processed)

    Good luck to all !!

When I changed my benefits payments - for three different benefits - I informed them FOUR whole weeks before the payments were due on each. The next payment still went into my OLD account, the subsequent payments went into my new account.

I have just done this myself and wondered where on earth the money had gone to!

For your account now, although the bank will not release the money, the OR can get it for you.
  • Before I ask some more questions (sorry!) I would like to thank you all so much for sharing your experiences on here. This is such a stressful and scary journey that it really helps to hear other peoples stories. And to know the process isn't as frightening as it sounds. So THANK YOU!

OK, the questions - we have a BR day of 6th Dec. So far we haven't told any creditors of the br. We have started to get letters as payments are missed, and after cancelling DDs we have started to get phone calls. Should we say we are going br? Will they stop? Or will that make it worse?

Also, we have opened new bank account with Nationwide. Most of our income is benefits and I have changed all of them and DDs over to it. Should I tell Nationwide before the br date? It is a basic account.

I've been trying for over a month to open a Co-op Cashminder acc and am accepted but have had lots of problems with proof of identity. I find their communication quite poor. I've sent off yet another proof and hope that will be enough. If I get it, should I tell them before the br date?

Hi Bizzy personally i didnt tell any of my creditors until after the event as it wont stop the phone calls or letters

it would be a good idea to enquire at the bank you have your basic account with ,i have a co-op cashminder and my OR told me today and iv read on here that they dont seem to have a problem with bankruptcy so account should be fine .

Thank you, I'll keep quiet about it to creditors then.

Does anyone know about the Nationwide? I opened the account before we got our br date, it was when we were getting advice from CCCS so we hadn't even decided br was our only option. I don't want to mess up everything I've put into place (changing benefits, DDs) by telling them, but nor do I want to lie to them - by keeping silent.
