Thanks folks - I gave her the number for Saga and she moaned a bit, as she's found them very expensive in the past. Explained that you just need to be in the right 'niche' to get a good insurance quote so she gave them a call, and they've come up trumps - virtually a third of the previous best quote, better cover and no exclusions!

Last year we moved our bank a/c fromNatWest to Lloyds TSB, (Classic Plus) absolutely great. Now they are suggesting we move to a PLATINUM a/c. This gives added benefits AA cover, card protection, commission free money etc. BUT the biggest feature as far as we are concerned is the Travel Insurance. This is world-wide multi trip cover up to age 79 (with AXA Insurance) and the benfits look good. The cost to us is £15 per month (£180 per annum), which is less than we paid last year for Travel Insurance alone. It looks good but does anyone know if it is any good? I have heard that the free travel insurance provided by banks is not all that it is cracked up to be.

Some friends of mine who are both 81, would like to fly to Canada to visit their relatives and obviously would need insurance.
They've tried a couple of brokers and I think, banks, but the prices they've been quoted have put them off even thinking of going, so I was wondering if anyone knows of good comprehensive cover for a couple of this age.
    Many thanks :confused::confused::confused:

    Hi All

I wonder if you can help with some recommendations. My parents are going off on holiday for two weeks starting 6th September. They have been trying to get travel insurance, but have just been quoted £398 for both of them

Mum is 71 and Stepdad is 73

Any recommendations on where to get a reasonable rate??

    Thanks in anticipation

I've used www.moneysupermarket.com for my [over-65] in-laws for the last couple of years, for similar reasons to yours.

I wasn't sure where your couple were going, so assumed a one-off fortnight in SPAIN. The lowest premium for the couple was £28.80.

The insurance premium has been so good over the last few years, that I've opted to take out Worldwide Annual cover for the in-laws, which costs them about £85 per annum. You'd clearly need to consider whether this offered any value for them though.

    Hope this helps.

You never really know how good an insurance company is until you have a claim.

I took out annual worldwide travel insurance for myself and my husband in April. I am 65 and he is 67 years old and I have pre-existing medical conditions. It cost £350. [We were planning to go to USA for a month and the single trip price for this was to be £344.40.] All my pre-existing conditions were covered.

While we were in America I got food poisoning and was in hospital for 4 nights. The hospital bill for this was 26,000 dollars - the hospital bed was $990 a night without any treatment. The insurance company paid out without quibble and also refunded my taxi fares to and from the hospital and the cost of prescriptions required when I left hospital.

I therefore feel that I can recommend Age Concern for their insurance. Their telephone number is 0845 601 2234.

Even with this claim we still have travel insurance cover until next April.

my folks are going to Dubai very soon. They are both very old (60 and 66) with health problems incl diabetes and my mum had cancer and is possibly under investigation for something else. She refuses to cancel her holiday despite it being 30C+ (and she cant cope here when its 25C).

Anyway my dad said he tried ringing a few places but no one will insure them due to age and health probs as my mum is under investigation.

Any one suggest a insurance company that may cover them with minimum of fuss? otherwise they are prepared to travel without insurance....strongly against my advice.

    thanks in advance
