Luton Airport ANPR 'fines'

exactly.Coupon-mad wrote: »OMG surely not parking up to wait for their passengers in a drop-off area. Whatever next!
Have I missed something? That exactly what a drop-off area is for and at an airport it's simply not possible to time your collection of your passenger down to the last minute if they are going through customs or held up a little.
Jeeeezz, if the drop-off area was always full do you know what the 'problem' was? It was that the drop off area wasn't big enough for the size of the Airport. That's all the problem was!
Bigger drop off area = problem solved. Appoint a PPC = problem created.
and doncha just love the way airport owners - with speed-of-rat-up-drainpipe spot an opportunity to screw the travelling public out of even more cash by hiding behind 'security measures'?
'a plastic bag to hold that 80ml tube of medication? certainly, sir. that will be 50p.'
and this on coming on top of 'struggling with yr luggage over there, li'l old lady? our trolleys only cost a non-refundable £1'.
surprisingly, the toilets are still free - but I'm sure they're working on that one.
it seems that the operators have latched onto ryanair's business model and seek to fleece the traveller at every interface.
back on topic and the obvious answer is as above: drop-off/pick-up zones a lot bigger than at present and carefully monitored.
but that would involve lost revenue to the operator and that wouldn't do at all....
p.s my previous advice to anyone dropping off at b'ham airport (BHX) still stands: use the railway car park short stay and take the skytrain straight to T10 -
It is certainly not just as easy for arriving passengers to take a free bus ride, as it unreasonably and unnecessarily lengthens their journey.
How can it lengthen their journey (in time) when you have said they they are already waiting outside the terminal for you to come and collect them? I saw the free buses just a 30 second walk from the terminal, across a small road with a zebra crossing.
If everyone was a selfish pr@t and used the roundabout for dropping off/picking up, there would be long queues on the approach road to get to the terminal and passengers would have to wait even longer to be collected/dropped off.
I don't agree with the charges at Luton airport, but the selfish people who cause inconvenience to others, should be hit with a fine. Perhaps they could operate the parking fines in Luton like bank charges: those who abuse the system pay and those who don't, go free?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

4 for a £1 last month at Luton and you have to buy a minimum of 4!RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I would have thought this was obvious. The buses depart at periodic intervals rather than immediately; it means first loading one's baggage on to a bus as well as waiting for other passengers to board; and buses usually drive more slowly than private cars.MissMoneypenny wrote: »How can it lengthen their journey (in time) when you have said they they are already waiting outside the terminal for you to come and collect them? Anyway, are you against the solution I suggested above with the first five minutes free in the drop-off and pick-up areas?0 -

There is no "pick-up" area at Luton, it is a drop off only area and yes, that should be free, as should their plastic bags.
How about my suggestion that those who drop off or pick up people on the roundabout, bus lane or approach road, should be fined and those fines used to pay for the free drop off area and free plastic bags?
Maybe it would be better if easy jet flew from more airports and then we could avoid Luton?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Then they need to create a pick-up area that operates in the same way as the drop-off area, with 5 minutes free.MissMoneypenny wrote: »There is no "pick-up" area at Luton, it is a drop off only area and yes, that should be free, as should their plastic bags.
The only way to issue fines is to make the roads public rather than private. Also, I believe that once adequate free-of-charge drop-off and pick-up areas are implemented, the problem and potential need for fines would disappear. The current problem is a result of the airport not providing sufficient freely accessible drop-off and pick-up areas.MissMoneypenny wrote: »How about my suggestion that those who drop off or pick up people on the roundabout, bus lane or approach road, should be fined and those fines used to pay for the free drop off area and free plastic bags?0 -
The buses depart at periodic intervals rather than immediately
If you look at the animated bus route for the free bus, the free bus drops off/picks up passenger, closes than the paid drop off zone (Click on Mid Term car park)
http://www.london-luton.co.uk/en/carparkmap/
The free bus intervals are every 10 minutes. The journey is either 3 minutes or 5 minutes, depends where on the site you read (unless of course, some selfish pr@t has blocked the approach road, roundabout or bus lane).
Plus free 30 minutes parking to drop off or pick up by the free buses.and buses usually drive more slowly than private cars.
I don't remember the approach road on that free bus route being a dual carriageway? Therefore all the traffic will be travelling at the same speed.RENTING? They are not fines but INVOICES, and can be ignoredExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

Can't believe that you joined MSE the same time I did, May 2006, and you are not aware that no private individual or firm can issue a fine or penalty to another person?
As taffy rightly says, it is NOT a fine so please don't confuse newbies who may come here for advice and think they have actually received a fine. It's Private Parking Co. unenforceable rubbish.
The way to go is simply to allow free quick pick ups outside, not in some short-stay car park, as already suggested by NFH. Other airports manage to do this, I know at Gatwick you can drop off or pick up at the terminal and away you go.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you thought about that for even just a second, you might realise that MSE is not all about evading parking tickets.Coupon-mad wrote: »As taffy rightly says, it is NOT a fine so please don't confuse newbies who may come here for advice and think they have actually received a fine
Where did I say that the parking ticket was enforceable? I said that people who blocked the approach route, roundabout or bus lanes, were selfish pr@ts.
Those drivers who drop their relatives off on the roundabout (so that they they have to walk around the roundabout to find a gap to the pavement) are something else.Coupon-mad wrote: »The way to go is simply to allow free quick pick ups outside, not in some short-stay car park, as already suggested by NFH. There is a free drop off and pick up area, but if you want to drop your family off outside the terminal, can't you just cut out another coupon for something else, so you free up a £1 to pay Luton?
The other alternative is to use Gatwick for your families flights as you say they have a free drop off and pick up, although that might cost you more in fuel or/and airfares than the £1 charge at Luton.
Maybe you are taking this money saving too far?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
